Countless precision instruments surrounded the table. Pumps rhythmically pulsed, circulating fluids.

A researcher opened a sealed nutrient canister. Inside, a set of vibrant organs pulsed in the liquid.

Compared to the organs typically implanted in Space Marines, these were noticeably larger, stronger, and more vital.

This particular set had been precisely tailored to suit Hades' current age and constitution.

Furthermore, the Emperor's gene-fragments had been added to this nutrient canister—

Firstly, to make Hades' physical qualities even more outstanding after the modification.

Secondly, to cultivate a set of enhanced organs specifically designed to suppress the constitution of the outsider.

However, as the organ transplant's success grew, the rejection between the two would weaken, and eventually, this suppression effect would diminish to nothing.

This was precisely the effect the Emperor desired.

Mortarion's blood, having undergone gene processing, was also added. This blood would further strengthen the connection between Primarch Mortarion and Hades.

Generally, gene-seed would exert a superior-subordinate influence over the offspring who used their genes.

Because of this influence, Space Marines would actively submit to their Primarch, deliberately imitate some of the Primarch's personality traits, and some would even begin to resemble their Primarch more and more.

However, because the Emperor's gene-fragments and a large amount of Mortarion's blood were added to Hades' modified organs, this dominating influence would be weakened.

It was more like a relationship of equals, rather than one of dominance.

However, that was their own business. The Emperor was not interested in it.

Adding Mortarion's blood to strengthen the relationship between the two was just another layer of insurance.

The Emperor himself was not present for this surgery, as other matters demanded his attention.

The tech-priests on the Emperor's Dream were elite personnel who had been by the Emperor's side for many years, and they would, of course, minimize the risks of this surgery.

Generally implanted in adolescents, it modifies the body to adapt to the subsequent series of modifications.

A powerful blood-pumping organ that supports the Space Marines' far-above-average height and extreme explosive power.

It also ensures that the Space Marine will not die immediately if one heart is destroyed.

Shaped like a short, thick tube, it accelerates bone growth within two years of implantation, while greatly increasing bone density.

The Space Marine's individual ribs will gradually grow into a thick bone plate to protect the internal organs of the chest cavity.

Myomer

Greatly enhances the Space Marine's muscle strength.

Haemastamen

Changes the Space Marine's blood composition, greatly increasing its oxygen-carrying capacity and circulation.

Larraman's Organ

Generates blood platelets for rapid hemostasis.

Catalepsean Node

Located in the upper part of the original stomach, it can process toxic or inedible foods.

Accumulates Gene-seed over time.

A Space Marine can produce two mature Gene-seeds, containing his lifetime of combat experience, and each Gene-seed can be used to cultivate a complete set of Space Marine organs.

[Black Carapace]

The final organ, implanted beneath the skin, gradually grows into a subdermal "black shell" over several months.

It allows Space Marines to directly interface with their power armor via neural link, and is essential for wearing Space Marine power armor.

The nineteen organs were implanted sequentially and methodically. Organs that should have been implanted in stages were all implanted in a single surgery.

The reason was simple: the surgery was taking far too long.

It lasted for months.

Hades' body was rejecting the organs, so their integration had to be slow and careful.

With each blood vessel connected, each nerve grafted, the readings on the monitors attached to Hades spiked wildly.

Even with a heavy dose of anesthetics, Hades' body was in constant revolt, cold sweat pouring down his face, his eyelids twitching uncontrollably.

When the last organ was safely implanted, when the last incision was securely sutured, every researcher in the room breathed a sigh of relief.

The Emperor's mission was successfully completed.

Hades was now sinking into darkness.

At first, he just felt a throbbing pain in his skull. Hades wanted to reach up and rub his head, but he found he couldn't move at all.

His left brain felt like it was about to explode, and his left eye was in agony.

Hades thought that was as bad as it could get, but he was wrong.

A tremendous force was crushing him. Hades tried to break free, but the force was like a gigantic, all-encompassing hand, offering nowhere to hide, nowhere to escape.

Just as the hand was about to crush him, it mercifully stopped. Hades' brain trembled. It was like a bomb about to explode, but he could never know when it would detonate.

His internal organs began to burn. Hades felt like his insides had grown hands and feet and were beating him from the inside.

This agonizing process seemed to last forever. Months? Years? Centuries? Or just a moment?

Hades only knew that it lasted a long time... so long that he thought he was about to die.

Then, the pain suddenly vanished.

Hades could no longer hold on. His consciousness sank back into the depths...
