Personality
Director Su is stern about student safety. When Yu Xiaogang returns from a disastrous Soul Hunting expedition with Tang San, Su openly condemns him for endangering a student despite knowing his own combat limitations. He also intervenes when Yu Xiaogang and Tang San pressure Xu Yuan to accept an unwanted apprenticeship 14 18.
His criticism does not prevent him from helping Yu Xiaogang. He disperses the crowd mocking the injured Grandmaster, vouches for his auction bid, and later tries to calm him after his Martial Soul transformation. His reassurance can be blunt: he suggests that Yu Xiaogang simply stop using the transformed Martial Soul 15 19.
Initially skeptical of the Wish-Granting Tree, Su volunteers to make a proxy wish because he wants to finish the proceedings and return his students to class. After witnessing a genuine breakthrough, he questions both the mechanism and its hidden cost rather than accepting Yu Xiaogang’s claims uncritically 16 17.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Yu Xiaogang’s Return
Su emerges from a classroom when students gather around the ragged Tang San and Yu Xiaogang. He rebukes Yu Xiaogang for returning in such a condition from a First Soul Ring hunt, treating the expedition as a failure of responsibility toward Tang San 14.
When Yu Xiaogang collapses and pretends to be unconscious, Su redirects the crowd’s attention to Xu Yuan’s upcoming wish auction, ending the public mockery 15.
Wish Auction and Failed Proxy Wish
Yu Xiaogang wins the monthly Wish Slot with a bid of 200 Gold Soul Coins, charged to the academy Dean. Su reluctantly agrees to vouch for the arrangement 15.
As Yu Xiaogang delays over whether someone else can bear the wish’s cost, Su volunteers to act on his behalf. His request for Yu Xiaogang to reach Level 30 produces no response from the Tree. Yu Xiaogang must make the wish himself 16.
Su then confirms that Yu Xiaogang’s Soul Power has genuinely reached Level 30. His announcement convinces the gathered students and teachers that Xu Yuan’s Martial Soul can grant wishes. Nevertheless, Su asks what price Yu Xiaogang paid and remains doubtful when the Grandmaster claims there was none 17.
Transformation Aftermath
After defending Xu Yuan’s refusal to become Yu Xiaogang’s disciple, Su witnesses the Grandmaster’s pig-like Martial Soul Possession. He struggles to suppress his amusement but brings Yu Xiaogang a mirror and urges him to stay calm 18 19.
Xu Yuan positions himself behind Su when Yu Xiaogang angrily confronts him. Reflecting on his own attempted proxy wish, Su feels lingering fear at how close he believes he came to sharing the Grandmaster’s fate 19.
Wang Sheng’s Soul Hunt
Su’s scheduled journey to the Soul Hunting Forest gives Wang Sheng an immediate opportunity to leave, avoiding the wait he expected for an organized trip and recommendation letter 24.
The pair find a badly wounded hundred-year Saber-Toothed Tiger near the forest entrance, allowing Wang Sheng to obtain his First Soul Ring. Wang Sheng later reports that Su’s quick reactions spared him from returning on a stretcher when his luck deteriorated afterward 25.
