Background / History

Yutong is the daughter of White Tiger Duke Dai Hao and Huo Yun’er, a former maid. She spent her early childhood with her ill mother in a neglected side courtyard, where other children bullied her and tried to steal money meant for medicine. Ye Tianming intervened soon after arriving at the mansion and began bringing them food and medicine 1 2 3.

Tianming’s help improved their living conditions, but Yutong remained afraid of losing her mother or being abandoned. He persuaded Dai Hao to visit them and fund Yun’er’s treatment, then prevented the duchess from sending mother and daughter to a country estate. Dai Hao later formally recognized Yutong as the mansion’s Third Young Lady and renamed their residence Cloud Creek Garden 7 8 9 12 14.

After Yutong obtained her first Soul Ring, Dai Hao had her take her mother’s surname for travel, making her Huo Yutong. She and Tianming left for Shrek Academy, where her reconnaissance ability secured her admission despite her single ring. Their team won the Freshman Assessment, though she initially received only temporary Core Disciple privileges. Following her breakthrough in the Far North, Mu En appointed her a Core Disciple of both the Martial Soul and Soul Tool departments 24 25 30 32 34.

Yutong was thin and visibly malnourished as a young child; improved food and care gradually restored her health 1 4 19.

Personality

Yutong is affectionate and generous even when she has little: she insists on sharing a pastry with Tianming and later learns to cook for him. Early neglect leaves her wary of kindness and fearful that his protection might disappear 3 6 13.

She trains diligently because she wants to protect her mother and Tianming rather than always depend on him. At Shrek, she grows confident enough to contribute decisively in battle, although being passed over for official Core Disciple status briefly revives her doubts 11 23 30 31 32.
