I'd Rather Starve, Die Out There, or Jump from Ten Thousand Meters Straight to the Earth's Core...
"We even brought you a present. For the sake of the present, don't be angry anymore, all right?"
How could Di Tian not know what present the Auspicious Beast meant?
It was Gao Ren's Overlord Drumstick, of course.
The Auspicious Beast had gone out and returned with a present especially for him. Ordinarily, that would have been something to celebrate.
But the present had come from a human, and a Ten-Thousand-Year Soul Beast had been the price paid for it... Di Tian had no use for a gift stained with the blood of his own kind!
Di Tian said, "Auspicious Beast, Uncle Di Tian is glad you brought him a present, but he doesn't like this one."
"I have no use for a human's gift." Di Tian turned to leave.
The Auspicious Beast trotted around to stand in front of him. "Di Tian, don't rush off! You haven't tried it, so how do you know it's no good? I promise, once you eat it, you'll think this present is amazing!"
"I don't believe you." Di Tian snorted. "If we're talking delicacies, nothing beats the paw of a Dark Gold Terrorclaw Bear.
"I'd sooner starve, die out there, or jump from ten thousand meters straight to the earth's core than eat a single bite of human food!"
Seeing how firm Di Tian was, the Auspicious Beast's little face fell.
But it soon perked up again.
If Di Tian refused, it could eat more Overlord Drumsticks!
"All right. If you don't want any, Uncle Scarlet King and I will eat them ourselves."
With that, the Auspicious Beast pulled a great heap of Overlord Drumsticks out of its Storage Soul Tool.
Of the fifty thousand Overlord Drumsticks Gao Ren had conjured for it and the Scarlet King, only five thousand remained.
Most of those five thousand were Overlord’s Belly-Filling Legs.
Why were there so many Overlord’s Belly-Filling Legs left?
Mainly because the fullness they produced dampened the appetite.
The Auspicious Beast and the Scarlet King generally saved those drumsticks to curb their appetites and keep the food from running out too quickly... But a glance at the remaining stock in the Storage Soul Tool showed how little restraint they'd exercised. Always thinking of eating just one more, they had barely touched the Overlord’s Belly-Filling Legs.
The Auspicious Beast dumped every drumstick except the Overlord’s Belly-Filling Legs in front of Di Tian.
The moment the Overlord Drumsticks appeared in the open air, their aroma spread rapidly in every direction.
All three of the Scarlet King's heads reacted at once, long strands of drool hanging from each mouth.
Di Tian smelled it too... It really did smell delicious. No! It didn't smell delicious at all!
Having resisted the drumsticks' temptation for the moment, Di Tian turned to look at the Scarlet King, a fellow member of the Ten Great Ferocious Beasts, and anger flared.
"Scarlet King! Can't you show a little dignity? They're just drumsticks! Look at yourself! You're one of the Ten Great Ferocious Beasts, not some stray dog!"
The Scarlet King took the rebuke like a student so shameless that even scalding water wouldn't faze him.
"Di Tian, it's because I'm one of the Ten Great Ferocious Beasts that I get to eat drumsticks this good. A stray dog would be lucky to get a bone someone else threw away!"
With that, the Scarlet King joined the battle, helping the Auspicious Beast devour the food.
For a while, all that could be heard was the crunch, crunch of snapping bones.
Watching the blissful Auspicious Beast and Scarlet King, then the ever-dwindling pile of Overlord Drumsticks, Di Tian gradually began to grind his teeth.
"Enough!"
The Auspicious Beast and the Scarlet King stopped at once and stared at him in confusion.
With a wave of his hand, Di Tian swept up the Overlord Drumsticks on the ground. Then he snatched the Auspicious Beast's Storage Soul Tool too.
"These are presents for me! Once you've given someone a present, how can you take it back?"
Auspicious Beast: ?
Scarlet King: ?
Di Tian ignored them and sent his Soul Power into the Storage Soul Tool. He found a fair number of Overlord’s Belly-Filling Legs still piled inside.
There were so many drumsticks in here that looked different from the ones outside. Could these be even tastier?
With that thought, Di Tian took an Overlord’s Belly-Filling Leg out of the Storage Soul Tool.
The Auspicious Beast immediately lunged forward to stop him. "Di Tian, don't eat that one yet."
"Why?" Di Tian asked, puzzled.
"There are three kinds of drumsticks. The one in your hand is called an Overlord’s Belly-Filling Leg..."
The Auspicious Beast explained the specific effects of Gao Ren's three kinds of drumsticks in detail, then added:
"If you want to eat to your heart's content, you'd better not start with an Overlord’s Belly-Filling Leg. One will fill you up. You can keep eating afterward, but it won't be nearly as satisfying."
Di Tian couldn't help laughing, a trace of mockery in his voice.
"Full for ten days? That must only work on humans and smaller Soul Beasts like you.
"How could the First Soul Skill of a mere Soul Grandmaster possibly make me feel full?"
"I am the Golden-Eyed Black Dragon King. In my true form, my head alone is dozens of meters across.
"A tiny drumstick like this wouldn't even get caught between my scales."
The moment he finished speaking, Di Tian shifted from human form back into his true form. He opened his mouth and used Soul Power to draw the Overlord’s Belly-Filling Leg into his Abyssal Maw.
The Overlord’s Belly-Filling Leg, no bigger than a speck of dust by comparison, passed unimpeded into Di Tian's stomach.
The Golden-Eyed Black Dragon King's stomach acid digested the Overlord’s Belly-Filling Leg instantly.
At that moment, the dragon's golden eyes widened, disbelief spreading across his face.
He lowered his head and looked at his belly.
A feeling he had not known in ages was rising from his stomach.
"I... I'm full...?" Di Tian froze.
As one of the Dragon God's personal guards, he was not a Soul Beast native to Douluo Continent. Naturally, he did not need food to sustain himself.
But that did not mean he could not eat.
The last time Di Tian had eaten his fill was back in the Divine Realm, before the God Star Ceremony.
For the Soul Skill of a mere Soul Grandmaster to make a being like him feel full—how could he not be astonished?
"See, Di Tian? I told you not to eat an Overlord’s Belly-Filling Leg first!" The Auspicious Beast laughed at his misfortune. "But you wouldn't listen."
Di Tian paid it no mind. Instead, he asked the Auspicious Beast:
"Auspicious Beast, you said one of the three kinds is called a Pure World Overlord’s Leg, correct? And its effect is to cleanse negative conditions."
"Yes, though I don't know exactly how effective the cleansing is." The Auspicious Beast looked puzzled. "Di Tian, why are you suddenly asking?
"Don't tell me your wound still hasn't healed. I thought you'd fully recovered from the Evil Emperor's Light of Time long ago."
"I was merely asking. Nothing more." The mention of the Evil Emperor rekindled Di Tian's anger. "If that old Evil Eye comes again, he won't leave the Star Dou Great Forest as easily as he did last time."
