Background and History
Gao Ren crossed over to the Douluo Continent. His parents, both food-type Soul Masters who worked at Shrek Academy’s cafeteria, were killed by Evil Soul Masters while visiting their hometown. Xuan Zi saved the infant Gao Ren, who was then raised by his uncle Gao Wei 1.
At six, Gao Ren expected to inherit a modest food-type Martial Soul. Instead, Xuan Zi’s awakening revealed Twin Martial Souls. Gao Ren accepted Xuan Zi as his master only after securing a promise that Xuan Zi would listen when Gao Ren told him not to do something 1 2.
Gao Ren later trained in the Outer Court cafeteria’s mimicry cultivation environment, frying and selling his Overlord Drumsticks there. His complaint that students had to eat standing up prompted Xuan Zi to press for cafeteria seating 7 8. Gao Ren’s wine and food also drew Mu En’s attention; Mu En promised him Shrek’s resources and brought him to a regular Sea God Pavilion meeting 5 6.
Fearing that Xuan Zi’s expedition with twelve Inner Court students might end in disaster, Gao Ren cultivated to Level 20 and requested a place on the trip. In the Star Dou Great Forest, his drumsticks helped settle a confrontation with the Scarlet King and the Three-Eyed Golden Lion. The Auspicious Beast then arranged the Purifying Water Swan’s sacrifice for his Second Soul Ring 12 13 15 18.
After returning, Gao Ren used his new skill to relieve Ma Xiaotao’s Evil Fire symptoms and purge the Dragon Core’s baleful energy from Mu En. Mu En subsequently named him an observer at the Sea God Pavilion 19 22.
Personality
Gao Ren is cautious around powerful people he considers unpredictable, particularly Xuan Zi on expeditions and Ma Xiaotao during Evil Fire flare-ups. He nevertheless negotiated directly with Xuan Zi before accepting his apprenticeship and chose to join the Inner Court expedition despite its risks 2 10 13.
He uses his abilities to address others’ problems: he selected a cleansing Second Soul Ring with Mu En and Ma Xiaotao in mind. His willingness to help can exceed his limits; producing more than 50,000 drumsticks for the Soul Beasts left him too weak to sit up unaided 17 19.
Abilities and Skills
Overlord Drumstick
Gao Ren can summon solid, edible chicken legs without using a Soul Skill. They are prized for their taste and strengthen the eater’s vital energy, blood, and physical strength 1 9.
- Overlord’s Belly-Filling Leg: Grants up to ten days of fullness and a second Soul Power reserve equal in capacity to the eater’s normal supply. The effect ends early if that reserve is exhausted 3.
- Pure World Overlord’s Leg: Cleanses harmful conditions. It purifies the Evil Fire in Ma Xiaotao’s body but only temporarily suppresses the Evil Fire in her Martial Soul; it also expels the Dragon Core’s baleful energy from Mu En without repairing his long-healed spinal damage 18 21.
- Production limit: Making more than 50,000 ordinary and Soul Skill drumsticks through repeated Soul Power restoration severely exhausts him 19.
Wine Martial Soul
Gao Ren’s second Martial Soul manifests as a wine jar and can produce Immortal’s Drunk, which increases spiritual power 2 7.
- A summoned vat is weightless to Gao Ren while he holds it, but creating one initially drains all his Soul Power. Gao Wei suggests its weight could make it an improvised weapon 2.
- Soul Power cannot dispel the wine’s intoxicating effects; it incapacitates Gao Wei and even Xuan Zi after they drink heavily 5 6.
- Regular drinking strengthens Ma Xiaotao’s spiritual power, improving her control over her fire and helping stabilize her Evil Fire 12.
