Background / History
Tang San retains memories of a previous life and regards himself as a successor of the Tang Sect. He brings its secret arts and hidden-weapon knowledge into his life on Douluo Star, initially believing that these advantages make him superior to anything another planet could offer 2 3 45.
Earlier in his life on Douluo Star, he was a work-study student whose background and limited resources restricted his opportunities. By the time of the planetary comparisons, however, he identifies with powerful Soul Masters and nobles rather than the disadvantaged people whose circumstances he once shared 49.
At his first appearance, Tang San and his father are escorting Xiao Wu toward the Star Dou Great Forest. Tang San and Xiao Wu exchange affectionate farewells as the time for their separation approaches 1.
Personality
Tang San is intensely proud of his talent, Tang Sect inheritance, and exceptional birth potential. He calls himself Douluo’s greatest genius and repeatedly assumes that Huaxia Star cannot possess achievements beyond his own abilities. When confronted with contrary evidence, he initially accuses the Sky Screen of fabrication rather than reconsidering his claims 5 6 10 11.
His admiration for Huaxia Star’s capabilities is mixed with jealousy. Shen Nong’s ability to grant Innate Full Soul Power threatens the distinction Tang San places on his own talent; he consequently wishes to monopolize such power and vows to eliminate anyone stronger than himself 17.
He can change his methods without relinquishing his ambition. After dismissing Soul Tools, he begins incorporating their technology into hidden weapons, then abandons traditional hidden weapons as his main research direction when Huaxia’s war machines expose their limitations 30 38.
Tang San openly favors hierarchy over equality. Although he briefly questions the nobles’ selfishness and recognizes the gods’ exploitation of mortals, he ultimately supports both to secure his own position. His public composure conceals his initial shock at the Asura God’s callousness 8 47 48.
Abilities & Skills
Martial Souls and Innate Talent
Tang San possesses twin Martial Souls and was born with Innate Full Soul Power 17 45.
- Clear Sky Hammer: Tang Hao identifies it as their family’s Martial Soul and confidently expects it to excel in the planetary comparison. Tang San privately places greater faith in his own methods 2.
- Second Martial Soul: Its identity is not specified in the cited account of his twin Martial Souls 45.
- Divine potential: The Asura God considers Tang San a person with a special destiny and the potential to become a god 45.
Tang Sect Secret Arts
Tang San has mastered Tang Sect Secret Arts and relies on their inherited knowledge as a major advantage over other Soul Masters 45.
- Mysterious Heaven Skill: He questions whether it could reproduce the feats of Huaxia’s Soul Masters after seeing them operate in interstellar combat 34.
- Hidden-weapon knowledge: He confidently claims that no one could withstand Buddha’s Fury Tang Lotus, though the statement is a boast rather than a demonstrated result 2.
Craftsmanship and Soul Tool Research
Tang San demonstrates practical skill in constructing hidden weapons and later experiments with Soul Tool technology 30 38.
- Displays his hidden weapons through the Universal Virtual World Exchange Forum, attracting interest from factions across Douluo Continent 30.
- Dismantles his storage Soul Tool while attempting to develop “Tang-brand” Soul Tools 30.
- Forges a hidden weapon incorporating some Soul Tool technology 38.
- Recognizes that his experimental weapon cannot compare with Huaxia’s remotely operated, self-destructing mechas and commits to studying Soul Tools instead 38.
- Aspires to surpass Huaxia’s larger weapons, but no successful equivalent is demonstrated 39.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Twenty-Four Bridge Bright Moon Night: A storage Soul Tool that Tang San dismantles during his attempt to combine Soul Power technology with Tang Sect craftsmanship 30.
- Tang Sect hidden weapons: Mechanical weapons he publicly demonstrates to promote their superiority over Soul Tools 30.
- Experimental hybrid hidden weapon: A newly forged weapon incorporating Soul Tool technology. He slams it onto the ground after comparing it with Huaxia’s Mecha Legion 38.
Relationships
- Xiao Wu — His romantic companion and most unwavering supporter. She agrees with his claims, comforts him after setbacks, and promises assistance from Da Ming and Er Ming. She continues supporting him after he chooses the Divine Realm’s anti-equality position 1 9 29 48.
- Tang Hao — His father and escort. Initially proud of their Clear Sky Hammer heritage, he becomes increasingly disturbed by Tang San’s arrogance and ultimately loses hope when his son knowingly endorses the gods’ treatment of mortals 2 10 29 48.
- Ah Yin — His mother. Tang Hao repeatedly invokes her when lamenting his failure to guide their son 11 29.
- Yu Xiaogang — His teacher and political ally. Tang San initially champions his theories, privately blames him after defeat, and considers replacing him with Confucius. He later renews their partnership because he needs allies and sees potential in Yu Xiaogang’s possible Martial Soul evolution 12 24 29.
- Asura God — His divine patron, who regards him as a strategically useful pawn and prospective heir. Tang San accepts his invitation and pledges to prevent Huaxia’s ideals from spreading on Douluo Star 45 46 48.
- Shen Nong — An object of both envy and hostility. Tang San covets his assistance but resents his ability to make exceptional talent widely available 17.
- Confucius — A prospective replacement teacher. Tang San hopes to become his disciple after witnessing the superiority of Huaxia’s Martial Soul research 24.
- Tang Xiao and the Clear Sky Sect elders — His hidden-weapon demonstration impresses them enough to consider recalling Tang Hao and Tang San and mass-producing the weapons for the sect 30.
- Other Shrek Seven Devils — Former close companions who grow increasingly estranged from his position when he endorses unrestricted domination of ordinary people 48.
- Chen Tian — Views Tang San unfavorably from the outset and includes him among the prominent Douluo figures he intends to confront with Huaxia Star’s achievements 1 11.

- Dismisses depictions of exploitation as unremarkable and suggests that commoners may have surrendered their resources willingly 4.
- Rejects Huaxia’s solution to planetary hunger, arguing that he would have accomplished it himself if it were possible. His accusations temporarily persuade Xiao Wu and Tang Hao to doubt the Sky Screen 5 6.
- Denies the plausibility of equality and universal access to Soul Master status. After Huaxia wins the comparison, he accepts Xiao Wu’s suggestion that its distant achievements cannot be verified 8 9.

- Reconciles with Yu Xiaogang through the forum, and the two begin publicly defending the Divine Realm and attacking Huaxia’s citizens 29 30 31.

- Revises that judgment after seeing the Sun Moon Empire’s technology and begins experimenting with Soul Power-assisted weapons 30.
- Huaxia’s Mecha Legion forces a more decisive reversal: he declares hidden weapons obsolete and resolves to transform the Tang Sect through Soul Tool research 38.
- Responds to Huaxia’s planetary-scale weaponry by vowing to create an even more magnificent Soul Tool 39.
Becoming an Asura God Loyalist
- Accepts the Asura God’s invitation after recognizing that individual talent cannot keep pace with Huaxia’s advancing civilization 45.

- Pledges to suppress Huaxia’s ideals of equality and public welfare, earning the Asura God’s approval while alienating Tang Hao and his fellow Shrek members 48.
- Rejects the Sky Screen’s verdict on Douluo’s economy, using the comfortable lives of Soul Masters and nobles as supposed proof that the planet’s conditions are acceptable 49.
