|---|---|---|
| Level 29 — established baseline | 6 | His Soul Power has remained at this bottleneck for years despite his extensive theoretical research. |
| “Fart God” — simulated ascension | 8 9 | An accelerated year of training with Luo Sanpao’s explosive gas carries him to the Divine Realm. This advancement belongs to the livestream’s deduction, not permanent cultivation. |
| Return to pre-performance state | 10 | The simulation removes his divine power and physical injuries. His emotional attachment to the experience remains. |
| Level 30 and further unspecified increases — fictional scene | 20 | In Emergency Rescue Theater, Tang San dissolves into azure light and becomes his Soul Ring and second Martial Soul, Ten-Year Solitary Bamboo. His Soul Power breaks through Level 29 and continues rising; Xiaogang explicitly tells the real Tang San that the event is fabricated. |
Background / History
Yu Xiaogang has devoted his life to Martial Soul theory, studying Spirit Hall’s texts and developing the Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul. His theoretical reputation contrasts with his own stalled cultivation: Luo Sanpao and his Level 29 bottleneck have long been sources of shame 6 8.
He recognizes Tang San’s Twin Martial Souls and accepts him as a disciple on the day the first livestream appears. Tang San initially hopes the broadcast will give his teacher an opportunity to repair his poor reputation 1.
Xiaogang previously had a brief romance with Bibi Dong. Their relationship remained emotional rather than physical, a distinction that later fuels his jealousy when Gu Xingzhou is shown treating her 21.
Appearance
- Build: Muscular, with powerful thighs visible during his forced costume change 12.
- Face: Described by livestream viewers as a middle-aged, stubble-faced man 16.
- Usual clothing: A black robe 12.
- Punishment costume: A tight pink dress, pink over-the-knee socks, and bunny ears matching Xiao Wu’s outfit; the livestream supplies these for Tough Bamboo Temptation 12.
Personality
Xiaogang strongly desires recognition for his research. He repeatedly tries to turn unwanted broadcasts into demonstrations of his expertise, particularly through selecting Tang San’s First Soul Ring. The possibility of receiving a cultivation reward quickly restores his confidence after public humiliation 4 6 7.
His concern for Tang San is genuine, although his judgment can be poor. He brings his growing disciple breakfast, panics when he begins choking, and accepts the livestream’s intervention because it may save him. Later, he reassures Tang San that his disciple receiving a reward is enough, even though Xiaogang himself has lost 4 5 11.
Repeated embarrassment does not make him immune to shame. His claim that his heart is “still as water” masks a lack of alternatives, and the bunny costume overwhelms his attempted composure. Likewise, simulated rejection and godhood leave real emotional effects despite his awareness that the scenarios are scripted 8 10 12.
Abilities & Skills
Martial Soul Theory
- Soul Beast assessment: Explains how the color of a Soul Beast’s attacking Soul Power corresponds to its Soul Ring’s age category 7.
- First Soul Ring research: Places the absorption limit at 423 years, recommending a ring as close to that age as possible 7.
- Talent recognition: Identifies Tang San’s Twin Martial Souls before the livestream exposes them publicly 1 8.
- Practical guidance: Helps Tang San obtain a ring from a four-hundred-year-old Mandala Snake rather than use his awarded Solitary Bamboo ring 14.
- Limitation: His research has not resolved his own Level 29 bottleneck 6.
Luo Sanpao
- Gas attack: Summons Luo Sanpao to release a powerful, foul-smelling blast 4.
- Failed rescue application: Attempts to make Tang San vomit out a lodged bun; instead, the blast makes him gasp, drives the obstruction deeper, and leaves him unconscious 4.
- Simulated propulsion: Uses “Fart like thunder, Earth-Shattering Luo Sanpao!” to launch himself upward. The deduction progresses from lifting him half an inch to carrying him through the clouds 8.
- Simulated combat limit: Tang San blocks Xiaogang and Luo Sanpao’s attack with two bamboo stalks before they can fire, defeating them 10.
Livestream-Guided First Aid
- Heimlich maneuver: Performed under the livestream’s bodily control to dislodge Tang San’s bun 5.
- CPR and rescue breaths: Follows thirty chest compressions with two rescue breaths, reviving Tang San 5.
- Limitation: These procedures are directed by the livestream; the incident does not establish independent medical expertise 5.
Tough Bamboo Temptation
- Claimed function: A “self-created Soul Skill” presented during his punishment, intended to distract an opponent through dance and create an opening for a fatal attack 11 12.
- Opening sequence: Crouches, sticks out his tongue, and raises double peace signs before posing with Ten-Year Solitary Bamboo 12.
- Pole-dance transition: Supposedly conceals the shift into a fighting stance and a bamboo thrust 12.
- Limitation: Its combat effectiveness is asserted during a compulsory performance, not demonstrated against an enemy 12.
Scripted Bamboo and Ring Detonation
- Second Martial Soul: Gains Ten-Year Solitary Bamboo after absorbing the fictional dying Tang San 20.
- Ring Detonation: Explodes his Soul Rings to release a surge of power 20.
- Poisoned thrust: Uses that surge to pierce Bibi Dong’s chest with poison-coated bamboo 20.
- Limitation: All three abilities occur in an invented theater scene; the real Xiaogang rejects the premise that a person could become his Soul Ring 20.
Relationships
- Tang San — Direct disciple. Tang San’s trust survives embarrassment because Xiaogang recognized his talent and helped save his life. Xiaogang also restrains him from retaliating against students’ mockery 1 5 12 14.
- Bibi Dong — Former girlfriend who retains feelings for him. Their past makes her script choices emotionally difficult and makes him jealous of Gu Xingzhou’s access to her 15 16 21.
- Liu Erlong — Persistent defender. She objects to his humiliation, argues that he deserves compensation, and condemns viewers who deliberately deny him a reward 6 10 11 21.
- Flender — Close friend who mixes support with teasing. He defends Xiaogang’s instruction and reminds him that the Divine Realm scenario is only a simulation 7 8 17.
- Gu Xingzhou — Secret orchestrator of the livestream targeting him. Xingzhou values the popularity Xiaogang generates and outwardly encourages his ambitions while concealing control of the show 3 7 9 13.
- Xiao Wu — Fellow livestream participant whose outfit is copied for his punishment. She is disgusted by the costume reuse and demands compensation for her embarrassment 12.
Story Role / Major Arcs
First Broadcast and Breakfast Rescue
The livestream chooses Xiaogang as its first performer, forcing him onto Notting Academy’s rooftop to squat, flash two V-signs, and stick out his tongue. After being held in the pose for roughly three minutes, he retreats to his room. A subsequent vote selects him again with 50 million votes 1 2 3.
His attempt to regain control of his reputation leads to the breakfast emergency. The broadcast turns his failed gas-based rescue and subsequent livestream-guided resuscitation into another continent-wide spectacle. He then wins the next selection vote with 40 million votes, narrowly ahead of Xiao Wu’s 39 million 4 5 6.
Ten-Year Solitary Bamboo
Xiaogang and Tang San choose the same script and are transported to Soul Hunting Forest. His intended lesson becomes an involuntary claim that Tang San can absorb eighteen ten-year bamboo rings and acquire eighteen pole-vault skills 7.
The deduction sends Tang San to the Divine Realm, then depicts Xiaogang reaching it through gas-powered training. Their confrontation ends in Xiaogang’s defeat and the removal of his temporary godhood. Tang San wins the audience vote 60 million to 30 million, leaving Xiaogang with the Tough Bamboo Temptation punishment 8 9 10 11.
After the forced dance, Xiaogang continues assisting his disciple’s actual Soul Ring hunt. They return to Notting Academy having killed a four-hundred-year-old Mandala Snake, only to face renewed student ridicule 12 14.
Emergency Rescue Theater and Thirteen Needles
Later broadcasts use fictional versions of Xiaogang and Tang San as guest characters rather than bringing the real Xiaogang into the theater. The scenario first has him threaten Spirit Hall over Tang San’s safety, then depicts Tang San’s death, Xiaogang’s sudden breakthrough, and his revenge attack on Bibi Dong 16 17 20.
A subsequent fictional flashback shows Tang San treating an unconscious Xiaogang with the Tang Sect Thirteen Needles. The procedure expels poisoned blood, but Xiaogang wakes in pain and faints again. Watching the scene, the real Xiaogang is relieved not to feel the needles, although viewers’ comments revive his bodily insecurities 21 22.
