Background / History
Earlier Teaching Career
Zhou Yi had already been demoted to teaching freshmen before Lin Fan’s first class. She disliked the assignment and hoped for a promotion and raise. Du Weilun’s private assessment indicates that her previous demotion had not corrected her conduct 14.
She had also expelled Mu Jin’s younger brother, creating a lasting grievance between the two teachers 20. According to upperclassmen whose accounts Wang Dong heard, Zhou Yi made students run in heavy iron armor under the blazing sun; missing the deadline could mean repeating the exercise or being expelled 23.
First Lesson and Student Complaint
On her first day with Freshman Class One, Zhou Yi declared that she wanted to cultivate “monsters,” not students she considered trash. After reviewing the student profiles, she deliberately selected Lin Fan—the class’s strongest freshman, a rank-38 Soul Elder—to make an example of him and establish her authority 13.
She asked whether he had initiated any fights during registration. When he answered no, she called him mediocre and ordered him to run one hundred laps around Shrek Square. Lin Fan refused and challenged her claimed authority to expel him. Zhou Yi released her six Soul Rings to intimidate the class, but he left to report her 13.
Zhou Yi then ordered the entire class to run one hundred laps within an hour, threatening expulsion for failure. Wang Dong also refused and accompanied Lin Fan to Du Weilun’s office. Their complaint prompted Du Weilun to confront Zhou Yi at the square 13.
Reprimand and Attempted Retaliation
Du Weilun rejected Zhou Yi’s claim that being head teacher entitled her to expel freshmen at will. He removed her from teaching for the day, arranged a substitute, and canceled the running punishment. He also warned that retaliation against Lin Fan or Wang Dong would lead to consequences beyond a demotion and pay cut 14.
Although Zhou Yi apologized and promised compliance, she privately intended to punish the pair. By the following morning, she was planning another thousand laps in retaliation for their report 14 16.
Her plan was delayed when Du Weilun assigned Lin Fan and Wang Dong to plant trees. Xiao Xiao later joined them. After Huo Yuhao explained their absence, Zhou Yi accepted that they were working under Du Weilun’s authority and postponed confronting them 17.
Loss of Three Students
Concerned about continued retaliation, Lin Fan, Wang Dong, and Xiao Xiao requested transfers out of Class One. Du Weilun approved their move to Class Nine under Mu Jin, who welcomed them after learning where they came from 19 20.
Zhou Yi discovered the transfer while searching for the absent trio. Furious over their departure and another scolding from Du Weilun, she returned to Class One and blamed them for her humiliation 20. She subsequently told Huo Yuhao that Wang Dong had changed classes 22.
Appearance
- Presents as an elderly woman with deeply wrinkled skin and white-gray hair coiled atop her head 13.
- Has a medium build and wears a long robe 13.
- Her scrutinizing gaze makes the freshmen feel oppressive pressure even before she releases her Soul Rings 13.
Personality
Zhou Yi treats provocation and willingness to cause trouble as signs of exceptional potential. Her opening lesson equates avoiding fights with mediocrity, even when the student concerned has the highest Soul Power in the class. She relies on public humiliation, physical punishment, and threats of expulsion to establish control 13.
Her attitude changes sharply around superior authority: she greets Du Weilun warmly, then becomes apologetic when reprimanded. That outward compliance does not end her resentment; she continues planning revenge against the students who reported her 14 16 17.
Abilities & Skills
Soul Emperor Cultivation
Zhou Yi possesses six Soul Rings and is explicitly identified as a Soul Emperor when she releases them during her confrontation with Lin Fan 13.
- Soul Ring configuration: Two yellow, two purple, and two black rings 13.
- Soul Power pressure: Releases a powerful aura that terrifies the freshmen 13.
- Demonstrated limit: Her intimidation does not make Lin Fan submit or prevent him from reporting her 13.
Relationships
- Lin Fan — Former student whose refusal to accept her punishment triggers administrative intervention and, eventually, his transfer out of Class One 13 14 20.
- Wang Dong — Former student who supports Lin Fan’s complaint and becomes a target of Zhou Yi’s planned retaliation 13 16.
- Xiao Xiao — Former student injured after tripping during the forced running; later leaves Zhou Yi’s class with Lin Fan and Wang Dong 14 20.
- Du Weilun — Supervising administrator who cancels her punishment, reprimands her, and authorizes the trio’s transfers 14 20.
- Mu Jin — Fellow teacher who resents Zhou Yi for expelling her younger brother and openly condemns her teaching methods 20.
- Huo Yuhao — Student who explains his classmates’ tree-planting assignment. Unlike the departing trio, he considers Zhou Yi’s running exercises and lessons suitable for him 17 22 23.
