Ch. 1Qin Muchu

Plot and events

Qin Muchu, a boy reincarnated from modern Earth into the Douluo world, heads to Nuoding City’s Spirit Hall for a Martial Soul awakening. Orphaned three years earlier when his Soul Master parents were killed in a battle between two Soul Emperors, he hopes to awaken strong enough to attend Shrek Academy and eventually find a way to revive them. He also plans to pursue Xiao Wu, though he recognizes that doing so could put him at odds with Tang San.
Qin Muchu arrives at the monthly free awakening ceremony and is surprised to find Su Yuntao conducting it. Su Yuntao explains the process, performs his wolf Martial Soul Possession, and begins awakening the children. The first child manifests an unusual armor Martial Soul and tests at Innate Level Three Soul Power. Su Yuntao invites him to join Spirit Hall, and the boy accepts. Qin Muchu’s own awakening has not yet taken place.

Character development

  • Qin Muchu is shaped by loss: after growing up an orphan in his former life, he had finally found a family only to lose his parents again. Their name and inheritance are among the few things they left him. He is practical and opportunistic, willing to benefit from Spirit Hall’s programs while reserving judgment about its motives.
  • Su Yuntao is shown as considerate and encouraging. He warns the children before transforming and treats the first child’s talent with genuine enthusiasm.
  • The first child responds timidly at first but grows hopeful after learning he has Soul Power and chooses to join Spirit Hall.

Character interactions

Qin Muchu watches Su Yuntao closely, recognizing him from the anime and appreciating his effort to prepare the children for Martial Soul Possession. Su Yuntao calmly guides the frightened group, then praises the first child’s potential and offers him a place in Spirit Hall. The child seeks reassurance before accepting.

Significant themes

  • Grief and family: Qin Muchu’s plans to revive his parents are driven by the pain of losing them.
  • Fate and foreknowledge: His memories of the original story shape his ambitions and his approach to Tang San and Xiao Wu.
  • Opportunity and institutions: Spirit Hall’s free awakenings offer real benefits to ordinary families, even if the organization’s recruitment motives are self-serving.
  • Privilege and inequality: Wealthier families can arrange private ceremonies, while common children depend on the public service.

Ch. 2Pay-to-Win System

Plot points and events

  • During a village Martial Soul awakening, Qin Muchu asks whether a girl with Blue Silver Grass and some Innate Soul Power can cultivate. Soul Master Su Yuntao says no one is known to have succeeded with that Martial Soul, then continues the ceremony.
  • Qin awakens a single Martial Soul: a badly rusted, chipped sword. The crystal ball shows no Soul Power, and Su Yuntao dismisses him as untalented, suggesting he might someday join the City Guard.
  • Back at home, despondent Qin hears a “Pay-to-Win System” activate. It immediately alters his talent, raising him from no Soul Power to level-five Innate Soul Power.
  • The system offers only five functions—Status Panel, Shop, Mystery Box Opening, Top-Up, and Balance Check—with the mystery box unavailable. Its status panel confirms level-five Soul Power, the Rusty Sword, and no Soul Rings.
  • The shop contains powerful items, but their prices are enormous, including a Divine Position costing ten billion Gold Soul Coins. Qin realizes the system’s central obstacle is his lack of money.

Character developments and interactions

  • Qin Muchu moves from hopeful anticipation to humiliation and despair after awakening a poor Martial Soul with no Soul Power. The system’s intervention restores his excitement, but the costly shop quickly tempers it with frustration.
  • Su Yuntao is matter-of-fact and somewhat pitying: he explains the Blue Silver Grass’s poor reputation, tests Qin, and bluntly advises him to seek ordinary work.
  • Qin and the system begin a comic, antagonistic relationship. The system improves his talent but also mocks him, while Qin complains about its money-focused design and the insultingly expensive shop.

Significant themes

  • Talent and social prospects: Martial Soul quality and Soul Power determine a person’s perceived future, leaving Qin dismissed before he has a chance to prove himself.
  • Luck versus resources: The system gives Qin a second chance, but its pay-to-win structure makes advancement depend on wealth he does not have.
  • Humor amid disappointment: Qin’s dramatic despair, prayers, and arguments with the system contrast with the serious implications of his poor awakening.

Ch. 3Beginner Gift Pack

Key plot points

  • Qin Muchu discovers that his system generates one Gold Soul Coin per second, making expensive purchases possible if he waits.
  • After saving 10,000 coins, he buys the Beginner Gift Pack. The system upgrades it because of his poor talent, replacing it with a Million-Year Soul Ring that can be absorbed regardless of his physical condition.
  • With more than two months before Nuoding Academy opens, Qin worries that Tang San will eventually attend and that Tang Hao may uncover Qin’s secrets.
  • Qin sends several copies of a false warning to Tang Hao, claiming Spirit Hall has discovered his location and is coming for him. He pays villagers from Holy Soul Village to deliver them.
  • Tang Hao reads the warning, believes that staying is too dangerous, and immediately leaves the village with Tang San before dinner.

Character development and interactions

  • Qin Muchu shifts from despair over the system’s prices to excited confidence once he learns his balance grows automatically. His ambition rises after receiving the Million-Year Soul Ring, and he begins using deception to protect himself from Tang Hao.
  • Tang Hao is introduced as a shabby, alcoholic former powerhouse. The warning jolts him into decisive action: despite uncertainty about who sent it or whether it is true, he prioritizes Tang San’s safety.
  • Tang San is puzzled and reluctant to leave the only home he has known, but he follows his father without getting an explanation.
  • Qin’s playful exchange with his dog, Dahuang, contrasts with his secret, calculated plan. Old Jack scolds Tang Hao about his neglectful appearance and reliance on Tang San, while Tang Hao responds with little more than a wave.

Significant themes

  • Fortune and ambition: The system’s steady income and extraordinary reward transform Qin’s outlook and fuel dreams of power.
  • Deception and unintended consequences: Qin’s fabricated warning succeeds because it exploits Tang Hao’s fear that his identity has been exposed.
  • Protection and sacrifice: Tang Hao abruptly uproots Tang San to keep him safe, while Tang San must trust his father without knowing the reason.
  • Contrasts between appearance and identity: Tang Hao’s degraded condition conceals his former status as the formidable Clear Sky Douluo.

Ch. 4Joining Nuoding Academy

Key plot points and events

  • After two months of practicing basic meditation, spirit-power cultivation, and body-tempering methods, Qin Muchu estimates his progress at roughly one and a half levels per year. Though initially disappointed, he accepts steady cultivation as a long-term process.
  • He goes to Nuoding Academy to enroll. The guard lets him in readily, partly because Qin’s expensive-looking clothes make him seem wealthy and not worth provoking.
  • At registration, Qin learns he needs a Martial Soul certificate, which he does not have. He invents a story about an old Spirit Master awakening his Martial Soul and the Spirit Hall being unable to issue a certificate afterward. His feigned tears persuade the teachers to test him and admit him.
  • Qin is assigned to the comfortable Dorm One, but deliberately requests Dorm Seven, the work-study dormitory, claiming hardship will strengthen him and that he wants to learn alongside diligent students. The teachers are impressed and approve the change.
  • At Dorm Seven, Qin is struck by its shabby condition. He meets Wang Sheng, who identifies himself as the dorm’s “boss,” introduces his War Tiger Martial Soul, and asks Qin about his own.

Character developments

  • Qin is patient about his modest cultivation speed and shows persistence rather than expecting quick results.
  • He is also calculating and theatrical: he uses a fabricated backstory and staged tears to overcome the certificate problem, then presents an idealistic reason for choosing rougher living conditions.
  • His enthusiasm for the academy is mixed with playful, opportunistic thoughts about meeting a “cute, dim-witted little rabbit.”
  • Wang Sheng appears confident in his authority within the dorm and immediately questions the newcomer.

Significant themes

  • Persistence and gradual growth: Qin views cultivation as the result of sustained effort.
  • Appearance and social judgment: The guard’s treatment of Qin contrasts with how a poor-looking student might be treated.
  • Ambition and self-presentation: Qin shapes others’ impressions of him through both deception and a carefully chosen display of virtue.
  • Hardship as self-improvement: Qin argues that difficult conditions can build discipline, though his motives for choosing Dorm Seven are not fully explained.

Character interactions

  • Qin’s polished appearance earns him a smooth entry past the guard.
  • He wins the registration teachers’ sympathy with his story, then their admiration with his speech about hardship and study.
  • The teachers discuss him approvingly after he leaves, seeing him as an unusually promising and principled child.
  • Qin’s first exchange with Wang Sheng sets up a test of identity and standing in the dorm: Wang introduces his Martial Soul and expects Qin to do the same.

Ch. 5The Wu in Xiao Wu Means Dance

Key plot points and events

  • Qin Muchu arrives at Dorm Seven and challenges its established boss, Wang Sheng, under the dorm’s rule that newcomers must fight for the right to lead.
  • Qin Muchu uses timing and technique to evade Wang Sheng’s attacks, then strikes his arm with his rusty sword. Wang Sheng concedes, and the other boys accept Qin Muchu as their new boss.
  • Qin Muchu has his new underlings make his bed. Wang Sheng asks why he has joined the work-study dorm despite his belongings suggesting he is well-off; Qin Muchu says he wants the dorm’s good cultivation atmosphere.
  • Xiao Wu arrives. Qin Muchu recognizes her and proposes that she follow the dorm’s customary challenge for leadership.
  • Xiao Wu reveals she is a level-twelve Battle Soul Master, far stronger than Qin Muchu’s level five. She quickly disarms and throws him, becoming Dorm Seven’s new boss.

Character developments

  • Qin Muchu establishes himself as clever, confident, and practical: he relies on technique rather than strength, enjoys his new authority, and accepts his defeat to Xiao Wu without protest. His familiarity with Xiao Wu’s identity gives him an advantage in understanding the situation, though not in winning the fight.
  • Wang Sheng shifts from self-assured dorm leader to respectful subordinate after Qin Muchu exposes the limits of his fighting skill.
  • Xiao Wu is introduced as cheerful and eager to fight, but her speed and strength quickly demonstrate that she is far more formidable than the boys expect.

Significant themes

  • Skill versus raw power: Qin Muchu defeats Wang Sheng through technique, but Xiao Wu’s overwhelming ability shows that a large gap in strength can still decide a fight.
  • Leadership through challenge: Dorm authority is determined openly by combat, and the group readily accepts whoever proves strongest.
  • Reputation and surprise: The boys’ assumptions about newcomers are overturned by Qin Muchu’s tactical skill and Xiao Wu’s unexpectedly high level.

Character interactions

  • Qin Muchu and Wang Sheng begin as challenger and boss, then become leader and subordinate.
  • Qin Muchu uses his new status to delegate chores, while Wang Sheng and the other students respond with respect and curiosity.
  • Qin Muchu greets Xiao Wu warmly but immediately invites her to fight for leadership. Their brief battle ends with Xiao Wu taking his place as boss.

Ch. 6Joining Beds

Key plot points and events

  • Xiao Wu accepts Qin Muchu’s suggestion that she become Dorm Seven’s “boss.” The other students agree, impressed by her level-twelve Soul Power.
  • Wang Sheng explains the academy’s six grades, the students’ morning lessons, and the work-study students’ afternoon jobs. Xiao Wu and Qin Muchu are first-years; Qin Muchu is exempt from work because his family can pay his expenses.
  • Xiao Wu jokingly asks Qin Muchu to pay her tuition. He says she should offer something in return, so she promises to protect him if anyone bullies him.
  • With no bedding of her own, Xiao Wu proposes joining her bed to Qin Muchu’s and sharing his large quilt. She sets a clear boundary between their sides.
  • When Xiao Wu learns that meals cost money, Qin Muchu offers to treat everyone to celebrate her becoming boss. The group heads to the dining hall together.
  • On the way, Xiao Wu asks about Qin Muchu’s Martial Soul, the Dancing Shadow Sword, and jokes that its name and hers make them seem destined to meet.

Character developments and interactions

  • Xiao Wu quickly establishes herself as a confident, playful leader. Though unfamiliar with ordinary school expenses, she eagerly accepts Qin Muchu’s help and offers protection in return.
  • Qin Muchu gently counters Xiao Wu’s expectation of getting things for free, encouraging her to think about reciprocity. He remains amused and accommodating, paying for the group’s meal.
  • Wang Sheng acts as a practical guide, explaining academy life and offering Xiao Wu his bedding before she chooses to share Qin Muchu’s.
  • The dormitory students first defer to Xiao Wu because of her strength, then follow along to dinner after Qin Muchu invites them.

Significant themes

  • Reciprocity and generosity: Qin Muchu frames help as something balanced by a contribution, while his meal offer shows generosity toward the group.
  • Leadership and belonging: Xiao Wu earns the dorm’s recognition as its boss, and the shared bed and group outing begin drawing her into the community.
  • Contrasting circumstances: Xiao Wu’s lack of money and unfamiliarity with paid necessities contrasts with Qin Muchu’s relative comfort and the work-study students’ hardships.

Ch. 7Cafeteria Commotion

Plot points and events

  • Qin Muchu’s group arrives at Nuoding Academy’s cafeteria. Although Wang Sheng leads them toward the cheaper first-floor food, Qin Muchu insists they go upstairs, where meals are more expensive.
  • Xiao Chenyu mocks Wang Sheng and the other work-study students for acting as if they belong on the second floor. Xiao Wu prepares to confront him, but Qin Muchu steps in.
  • Qin Muchu recognizes Xiao Chenyu, the city lord’s son, as a childhood friend. Xiao Chenyu is delighted to see him and invites the group to eat at his expense.
  • When Xiao Chenyu questions why Qin Muchu is with the work-study students, Qin Muchu explains that they are his roommates and friends. He asks Xiao Chenyu to stop looking down on them.
  • Xiao Chenyu agrees to make peace with Wang Sheng’s group and offers to treat them. Qin Muchu mentions Xiao Wu’s exceptional level-twelve Soul Power; impressed by her talent, Xiao Chenyu apologizes for his earlier insult. Xiao Wu accepts once he promises to buy the meal.

Character developments and interactions

  • Qin Muchu shows loyalty to his new friends, using his childhood connection with Xiao Chenyu to defuse the conflict. He also tactfully boosts Xiao Wu’s pride by emphasizing her strength.
  • Xiao Chenyu shifts from smugly belittling the work-study students to warm familiarity with Qin Muchu, then to respectful caution toward Xiao Wu. His apology and offer to pay help repair the situation.
  • Xiao Wu is eager to defend her dormmates and proud of being their leader. She accepts Xiao Chenyu’s apology, but only after confirming the group will get a good meal.
  • Wang Sheng is relieved when the confrontation turns into reconciliation and accepts Xiao Chenyu’s offer rather than risk escalating a conflict with someone influential.

Significant themes

  • Friendship and solidarity: Qin Muchu stands by his roommates despite his higher-status connections.
  • Status and power: Xiao Chenyu initially relies on wealth and family rank, but Xiao Wu’s talent changes how he treats her.
  • Tact and conflict resolution: Qin Muchu turns a likely fight into a meal and a truce by appealing to personal ties and acknowledging Xiao Wu’s strength.

Ch. 8Passing on the Techniques

Key plot points and events

  • After dinner, Dorm Seven’s residents begin intensive cultivation. Qin Muchu alternates among meditation, body tempering, and spirit-power training, reflecting on the confusing rules governing cultivation in this world.
  • Xiao Wu, bored because everyone else is training, watches Qin Muchu instead of cultivating. She claims her talent lets her power grow without effort.
  • Qin Muchu urges her to train, warning that talent alone cannot protect the people she cares about. His words stir painful memories of her mother, and Xiao Wu agrees to cultivate.
  • Qin Muchu teaches her three techniques—for Soul Power, spirit power, and the body—claiming they are superior to local methods. Xiao Wu tests them and finds her cultivation more than twenty percent faster.

Character developments

  • Qin Muchu shows concern for Xiao Wu’s safety and maturity, encouraging her to turn her natural talent into real strength. He also shares valuable techniques generously, though he jokes that he invented them.
  • Xiao Wu shifts from carefree idleness to serious cultivation after Qin Muchu’s warning touches a painful memory. Her reaction to his generosity suggests growing affection and trust.

Significant themes

  • Talent versus effort: Natural ability matters, but it must be developed through discipline.
  • Strength and protection: Power is presented as necessary to protect oneself and those one cares about.
  • Trust and generosity: Qin Muchu’s willingness to share rare techniques deepens his bond with Xiao Wu.

Character interactions

  • Qin Muchu first teases and then seriously advises Xiao Wu, connecting cultivation to her promise to protect him. When he realizes his words have hurt her, he softens the moment with humor and the prospect of surpassing her.
  • Xiao Wu initially boasts and doubts his techniques, but she follows his advice, confirms their effectiveness, and warmly tells him he is good to her. Their playful exchange closes the chapter.

Ch. 9Origin Returning Pill

  • After a year at Nuoding Academy, Qin Muchu’s Soul Power has risen from level five to the late stages of level seven; Xiao Wu has reached level sixteen.
  • On the eve of vacation, Qin Muchu treats the graduating students to a celebratory meal. Xiao Wu, who has nowhere to go, agrees to spend the break at his home in Nuoding City.
  • Xiao Wu worries that Qin Muchu is wasting money, but he reassures her with a joking, obviously unconvincing story about the God of Wealth being his godfather.
  • At home, Qin Muchu opens the System Shop and chooses an Origin Returning Pill over three intermediate training manuals. He values the pill’s immediate boost to his cultivation and intends to buy the manuals later.
  • He swallows the pill, spending almost all of his accumulated system funds.

Character developments

  • Qin Muchu continues to progress rapidly and remains generous, playful, and secretive about his wealth. His parents’ deaths still hurt him, though he tries to hide his grief. He also shows practical ambition by weighing immediate gains against long-term training.
  • Xiao Wu reveals loneliness at the prospect of spending vacation alone. She is affectionate and considerate, worrying that her appetite and their outings have cost Qin Muchu too much. Her mood quickly brightens when he invites her home.

Significant themes

  • Friendship and companionship: Xiao Wu’s loneliness is eased by Qin Muchu’s invitation, and their teasing reflects their growing closeness.
  • Grief and comfort: Xiao Wu responds gently when Qin Muchu mentions his deceased parents, offering silent support.

Ch. 10Upgrade, Absorb a Soul Ring

Plot points

  • He uses a stored Million-Year Soul Ring on his Dancing Shadow Sword and spends three days in seclusion refining the resulting surge of Soul Power.
  • Weak and ravenous when he emerges, he is helped by Xiao Wu and eats a meal.
  • The System’s newly available Mystery Box gives him a Disguise Soul Tool, which can conceal auras and disguise Soul Rings. He thinks it could help hide Xiao Wu’s aura.
  • When Qin Muchu jokes about buying more disguise tools, the system threatens to detach itself. He apologizes, and the threat stops. The box becomes unavailable again, apparently until he reaches another major realm.
  • He discovers that his balance is earning two Gold Soul Coins per second. Excited, he impulsively hugs Xiao Wu and says they are going to “soar.” He then offers her a gift and asks her to close her eyes.

Character developments and interactions

  • Qin Muchu’s breakthrough makes him much stronger and brings him to the point where he can absorb a Soul Ring. His confidence and excitement also make him impulsive, and he is easily distracted by the system’s rewards.
  • Xiao Wu waits anxiously outside his room despite complaining that he has neglected her. She supports him when he emerges, helps him eat, and shows her affection through practical care even while pretending to be angry. His sudden hug flusters her, though she protests.
  • Their teasing, sulking, and affectionate gestures underline their close bond. Qin Muchu initially misses Xiao Wu’s attempts to get his attention, then tries to make amends with a promised gift.

Significant themes

  • Care beneath teasing: Xiao Wu’s mock irritation masks genuine worry and concern.
  • Power and concealment: The Disguise Soul Tool offers a way to hide auras and Soul Rings, suggesting the value of keeping strength and identity secret.
  • Comedy and system dependence: Qin Muchu’s enthusiasm clashes with the system’s threatening response, while his discovery of passive income fuels his excitement.

  • Xiao Wu initially mistakes the ring for a romantic or family commitment and is embarrassed, but Qin Muchu explains its practical purpose.
  • Xiao Wu learns that Qin Muchu has advanced from level seven to level sixteen in three days and gained a Soul Ring. He credits an “immortal pill” from his godfather, though Xiao Wu doubts his account.
  • Qin Muchu reveals that his first Soul Ring grants two Soul Skills:
    • Ten Thousand Transformations, One Edge sends out a crescent of sword energy and can combine the effects of other Soul Skills into its strike.
    • Boundless Reversal Barrier creates a defensive field that absorbs some incoming energy and strengthens itself. Qin Muchu claims it can withstand attacks from Soul Masters below level thirty.

Character developments

  • Xiao Wu feels safer after realizing the Soul Tool masks her Soul Beast aura. Her amazement at Qin Muchu’s extraordinary growth quickly turns into suspicion when his explanations fail to add up.
  • Qin Muchu shows care for Xiao Wu by giving her protection, but also teases her and conceals the real explanation for his sudden breakthrough and unusual Soul Ring. He is eager to boast about his new abilities.

Character interactions

  • Their playful teasing over the ring briefly flusters Xiao Wu; Qin Muchu then reassures her and explains the gift.
  • Xiao Wu questions Qin Muchu’s rapid advancement and challenges his story about obtaining his Soul Ring. He evades further questions by shifting the conversation to his Soul Skills.

  • Protection and vulnerability: The Soul Tool offers Xiao Wu security in the human world, reflecting the danger of her hidden identity.

  • When Qin Muchu wakes, he recognizes the grub as the Sky Dream Ice Silkworm. The Silkworm is startled that Qin knows its name and initially fears he intends to harm it.

  • The ape, Er Ming, takes Xiao Wu to the Lake of Life, where she finds him and Da Ming badly injured. Da Ming explains that the Heaven-Gazing Hou has grown immensely powerful, defeated both of them, and even fought Di Tian before withdrawing.
  • Da Ming urges Xiao Wu to remain in the human world while the two apes recover. After initially insisting on staying, she agrees to leave the next day and explains that Qin is her closest human friend.

Ch. 17First Encounter with an Angel

Key plot points and events

  • After Xiao Wu leaves, Qin Muchu recovers and prepares to help Sky Dream Ice Silkworm reach one million years using a Beast Essence Pill. Sky Dream warns him that three powerful humans are approaching, so Qin delays.
  • The newcomers are Qian Renxue, escorted by Titled Douluo She Long and Porcupinefish Douluo. They are in the Star Dou Great Forest to hunt a Sixth Soul Ring. They notice Qin Muchu but dismiss him as an unimportant child and continue on.

  • Qin reaches level twenty-three and gains two Soul Skills: Simulation, which creates disguises and illusions, and Spiritual Storm, which combines spiritual attacks with Sword Qi in a ten-meter area. Used with his martial technique, Simulation can briefly deceive enemies when they try to block his strikes.
  • Qin wonders why his new Soul Ring appears white rather than gold or purple. Sky Dream explains that his source power is sealed, leaving the ring at roughly thousand-year quality, and that Qin’s unusually powerful, attribute-free first ring affects its appearance. Sky Dream then falls asleep to recover.
  • Qin checks the System Shop and finds seventeen million remaining, with his balance increasing by five gold per second.
