"Chen'er, how many jin does your Clear Sky Hammer weigh?" Tang Yue asked.
Since Tang Yue had asked, Tang Chen saw no reason to hide it and told him the truth.
"Not that much. Only eight hundred jin," Tang Chen said casually.
"Eight hundred jin!" Tang Yue's eyes nearly popped out. Damn it, even my Clear Sky Hammer only weighed two hundred jin when I first awakened it. It didn't reach eight hundred until I became a Soul Elder. This brat's only just awakened his, and it already matches mine back then. That's fucking monstrous.
A moment later, Tang Yue recovered. Looking at Tang Chen's young face, he couldn't help laughing.
"Hahaha! Good, my boy. Today, your father will teach you the techniques passed down by the Clear Sky Sect."
Tang Yue took out two new booklets.
"This one is the Clear Sky Sect's unique Meditation Method. The other is called the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer. It's both a method of forging iron and a way for our sect to strengthen the body. These are handwritten copies, though. You must never pass them on."
Tang Yue's voice turned stern.
"First, I'll teach you the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer."
Tang Yue summoned his Martial Soul, the Clear Sky Hammer. "Watch closely, son."
As soon as he finished speaking, Tang Yue twisted his wrist slightly, sank his waist, and settled his hips, planting his feet in a firm horse stance.
The Clear Sky Hammer, which had hung naturally toward the ground, suddenly swung upward.
Tang Yue gripped the Clear Sky Hammer firmly, rooted his stance, and brought the first blow down on an empty patch of ground. The massive hammer struck, and he caught the force rebounding from the earth without letting it dissipate, carrying it straight into the second blow.
He taught in a low voice, his movements flowing without pause. "With the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer, the heart of it is stacking one blow upon another."
Each blow carried forward the remaining momentum of the last. The previous strike formed the foundation; the next added to it, building force with every swing. The third blow surpassed the second, and the fourth stacked the strength of the first three. Hammer shadows rose and fell in succession, without the slightest break.
The stacked blows grew fiercer and fiercer. Though he was only swinging and striking, the force mounting with each blow sent the wind around the hammer raging.
After thirty-six consecutive blows, Tang Yue gradually came to a stop.
"Chen'er, did you understand?"
Tang Chen watched Tang Yue's movements, looking thoughtful.
"Father, I understand."
With that, Tang Chen copied Tang Yue's movements, swinging his own Clear Sky Hammer to perform the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer.
Tang Chen had only reached the fourth blow when Tang Yue shook his head. "The Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer draws power from the legs to the waist, then from the waist to the arms. The first blow stores power; the next builds on it. Every strike connects, and the momentum never breaks. But you aren't stacking your blows. You're generating fresh power for every swing. Keep doing it that way, and the ninth blow will be your limit for now."
Tang Chen nodded, adjusted his stance, and continued practicing the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer.
In just one afternoon, Tang Chen had more or less mastered the first thirty-six blows of the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer. (Those were the only blows Tang Yue had taught him.)
Seeing the surprise on his father's face, Tang Chen feigned confusion. "Father, how did I do?"
"N-not bad, I suppose. Still nowhere near as good as I was back then." Tang Yue turned away, sounding a little embarrassed.
"Anyway, Chen'er, keep practicing on your own. I'll prepare a Medicinal Bath for you." With that, Tang Yue fled the room.
Tang Chen watched his father go and shook his head. So he wasn't as good as me. Did he have to react like that?
Then Tang Chen went back to practicing the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer.
By evening, Tang Chen could perform twelve consecutive blows of the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer.
Tang Yue, who had been gone all afternoon, returned to Tang Chen's side with a ring in his hand.
"Chen'er, this ring is a Storage Soul Tool with thirty cubic meters of space inside. Consider it a gift from your dad to celebrate your awakening."
Tang Yue held out the ring to Tang Chen.
Tang Chen took it and examined the space inside. To his surprise, the ring contained two piles of dried meat.
He looked up at Tang Yue, who saw his confusion and explained, "These two piles of dried meat were made from a thousand-year Mighty Bull Demon and a five-thousand-year Diamond Gorilla, with various Medicinal Herbs added... Forget it, you wouldn't understand. Just know the meat is for you to eat, but don't eat too much at once."
Tang Yue then called in the maids waiting outside. They carried in a large wooden tub and filled it with hot water. He took a packet of medicine from his Storage Soul Tool and tossed it into the water.
"Chen'er, get in!" Before Tang Chen could react, Tang Yue grabbed him and dumped him straight into the tub, then continued,
"This Medicinal Bath will temper your muscles and bones, increase your strength, and even speed up your cultivation! It's a secret formula of the Breaking Clan. If you weren't the most talented person in the Clear Sky Sect and its young sect master, you could forget about treatment like this."
As Tang Yue rambled on, Tang Chen, exhausted from the afternoon's practice, drifted off to sleep.
Tang Yue was still muttering when he noticed Tang Chen's tired face. He sighed deeply, then returned to his own room to cultivate.
Early the next morning, Tang Chen opened his eyes after sleeping through the night and stretched comfortably. "Mm, that felt good. Slept right through till morning." He looked down at the Medicinal Bath. The liquid had been dark green yesterday, but when he woke, it had turned clear.
Looks like I absorbed it well, Tang Chen muttered to himself.
"Oh, you're awake."
Tang Yue emerged from the inner room. "Father, when can I go get my Soul Ring?" Tang Chen was already growing impatient.
"What's the rush?" Tang Yue replied calmly. "I'll teach you the Meditation Method this morning, then take you this afternoon."
Tang Yue began explaining the Meditation Method to Tang Chen, going through each step and every point where problems might arise.
Tang Chen closed his eyes, cleared his mind of distractions, and began cultivating according to the Meditation Method Tang Yue had taught him.
Once he entered a meditative state, his mental power drew the Soul Power within him along like a thin stream, guiding it slowly through the pathways recorded in the method.
At first, his Soul Power did not flow smoothly. But thanks to his Clear Sky Hammer Martial Soul, cultivating soon became easier.
As Tang Chen continued, the Soul Power within him steadily grew and became more concentrated.
This Meditation Method belonging to the Clear Sky Sect is truly marvelous! After cultivating with it, Tang Chen couldn't help admiring the wisdom of the predecessor who had created it.
After completing one full circulation, Tang Chen could clearly feel that his Soul Power had grown a little more concentrated. The change was almost imperceptible, but the increase was real.
In a single morning, Tang Chen completely learned the Meditation Method.
Tang Yue had already praised Tang Chen's extraordinary talent countless times in his heart.
