The chance of a Hundred-Year Soul Beast yielding a Soul Bone was one in ten thousand to begin with. For it to yield an External Soul Bone was almost impossible.
Tang Yue even began to wonder, Could my son be a child of destiny?
Before long, Tang Chen opened his eyes.
As he finished absorbing the External Soul Bone, the Soul Power pent up inside him erupted. At the same time, the medicinal energy stored deep in his meridians, which he had never had a chance to absorb, was released all at once. His Soul Power began to rise rapidly.
Level eleven.
Level twelve.
Level thirteen.
Straight to level thirteen? Not bad, Tang Chen thought.
Then Tang Yue said, "Son, you absorbed a Soul Beast that extraordinary. The Soul Skill you gained must be powerful."
"Of course!" Tang Chen said excitedly. "That Golden-Haired Lion Mastiff was a super Soul Beast. There's no way its Soul Skill would be weak. My First Soul Skill is a pure amplification skill. It consumes one-tenth of my Soul Power, then triples my strength for the next hour. It also doubles both my defense and my physical constitution."
As he spoke, Tang Chen summoned his Martial Soul.
"First Soul Skill: Clear Sky Power!" Soul Power surged around him, and the rich, bright-yellow Soul Ring beneath his feet lit up at his call!
With a low shout, Tang Chen felt his strength swell like an erupting volcano. The muscles in his arms bulged, faint veins rising beneath his skin. His whole body seemed to brim with inexhaustible power.
"Father, watch!" Tang Chen swung at the boulder beside him with all his might.
Boom!!!
The instant hammer met stone, the impact seemed capable of destroying heaven and earth. The boulder shattered, scattering fragments across the ground.
Tang Chen withdrew his hammer and stepped back, shaken.
After absorbing the Soul Ring, the Clear Sky Hammer's base weight had doubled to a terrifying sixteen hundred jin.
Combined with his tripled strength, that sixteen-hundred-jin weight made this strike more powerful than one from an ordinary Power Attack System Soul King—even one whose Martial Soul was the Clear Sky Hammer and whose innate Soul Power had been level five.
Tang Yue felt as though an earthquake had struck his heart. Holy hell, he's a complete monster! This is only his First Soul Ring, and his strength already rivals mine as a Soul Elder. If he becomes a Titled Douluo someday, who in the world could stand against the Clear Sky Sect?
"Father, I also got a Soul Bone," Tang Chen continued.
"This Soul Bone comes with a domain called the Domination Domain. It has four effects. First, once activated, it greatly boosts my strength, defense, and physical resistance, increasing all my attributes by fifty percent. Second, within the domain, I'm immune to most pain, so even severe injuries won't disrupt my fighting. Third, it lets me resist the pressure of foreign bloodlines. Bloodline suppression like the Golden Dragon King's won't work on me; a higher bloodline can't forcibly suppress my strength. Finally, the domain unleashes a beast king's pressure on enemies within its range. Opponents with lower cultivation than mine will find their Soul Power sluggish and their movements slowed; even enemies at my level will feel its crushing force. Anyone whose mental strength far exceeds that of others at the same level can withstand the mental shock."
Tang Yue was speechless. His mouth hung wide open, and he could not even seem to close his jaw.
Seeing his father frozen in place, Tang Chen hurriedly delivered a piece of "bad news." "I can't use the domain yet, though. I should be able to once I reach Soul Elder."
Nearly three minutes passed before Tang Yue came to his senses. Then he burst out laughing. "Good! Good! Good!" His laughter rang with delight. "Chen'er, your current strength already surpasses that of most Soul Elders in the world. With this Soul Skill and Soul Bone Skill, you're fully qualified to challenge an ordinary low-level Soul King!"
Tang Chen smiled along with him. This era truly was the best of times.
Dragon Valley's pocket world might be difficult to enter, but the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well was still unclaimed. Resources were plentiful, while their enemies were pitifully weak. Among the Soul Beast Clan, the Silver Dragon King was asleep, and the ferocious beasts remained by her side. The Deep Sea Demonic Whale King stayed in the sea. The few others left were hardly worth worrying about.
As for humanity, the strongest was the current high priest of Sea God Island, but she could not leave the island. The second strongest was Qian Qiyun, the current Angel Douluo and pope of Spirit Hall—and Qian Daoliu's father—at level ninety-nine. But he almost never left Spirit Hall. The third strongest was Golden Crocodile Douluo at level ninety-seven. He was formidable, but his strength was about on par with that of my father, the current Clear Sky Douluo Tang Yue, who was level ninety-five. The rest were small fry, not worth a thought.
With the fourth-strongest person in the world for a father, there really was almost nothing he needed to fear.
"All right, let's head back to the sect," Tang Yue told Tang Chen. "There's still plenty to take care of."
With that, Tang Yue grabbed Tang Chen and flew toward the Clear Sky Sect's ancestral grounds.
They no longer had to search with painstaking care, so they flew much faster on the return trip. Tang Chen felt more at ease, too.
A day later, the familiar main peak of the ancestral grounds finally came into view.
The Soul Hunting Operation had taken nearly half a month from start to finish. Much of it had been spent on a tedious search, but the rewards had been extraordinary.
Tang Chen had obtained a perfectly matched First Soul Ring beyond Grandmaster's theoretical age limit, and his Soul Power had soared straight to the peak of level thirteen. He had also gained a First Soul Skill of immense value, one that would remain useful even when he became a Titled Douluo.
When the familiar, rugged outline of the ancestral grounds, built from dark-gray stone, finally emerged in full through the last gaps between the trees, Tang Chen felt an unexpected warmth and certainty, almost as though he had come home.
Clear Sky Sect. Finally, I'm back, Tang Chen thought.
Once inside the ancestral grounds, Tang Chen went straight to his modest but familiar home.
The first thing he did was sprawl across his bed and sleep.
The food during the Soul Hunting Operation had been passable, but the sleeping conditions had been awful. Tang Chen had not had a good night's sleep in nearly half a month.
Moments after lying down, he fell into a deep sleep.
He slept for two days and a night.
He slept so soundly he might have forgotten heaven and earth existed. When Tang Chen opened his eyes again, it was already the afternoon of the second day.
Tang Chen rubbed his bleary eyes, got out of bed, and stretched long and hard.
He stepped out of his room and found the house empty. His father must have gone to deal with sect affairs again.
Only a note remained on the table. It read, "Chen'er, cultivation isn't just about increasing your Soul Power. Combat experience is important too. I've found you an opponent. Once you wake up, go practice with him." A name was written on the back.
