"So you're saying I filled out a form, said 'I want them all'..."
"Then I said 'Praise Abundance, Disciples of Sanctus Medicus,' and you sent me here with a truck?"
In an abandoned underground pit, the air reeked of damp mold and raw earth. A six-year-old boy covered in livor mortis stood silently in the middle of it.
A pitch-black orb floated before him. A faint glow drifted across its surface as it circled him without a sound.
Then an electronic voice came from the orb:
[That's right, my dear transmigrator. Disciples of Sanctus Medicus—may we ascend together to bliss.] [As you requested, all nine of your nine-for-nine choices for your journey to the Douluo World have arrived.]
The system spoke with a metallic lilt. But as the boy listened, he fell silent.
"Do you even know that for my Martial Soul, I chose the Reignbow Arbiter? I wanted to come to the Douluo Continent and gain the power of the Aeon of the Hunt!"
A rare rasp entered the boy's voice. The black system, however, paid it no mind.
Without another word, it calmly laid out the nine options—or rather, the nine choices the boy had once made—before him:
[Lord of Life]: Ruler of life in the Douluo Plane, wielding authority over all life beneath the heavens. [Soul Power Amplification]: Your Soul Power reserves are ten times those of an ordinary person at the same stage. [Martial Soul Choice]: The Reignbow Arbiter, hunting across the world. [God of Abundance]: The deity you worship most. You possess their complete inheritance from birth. [Innate Full Soul Power]: Your Soul Power Level starts at level ten. [Guardian Gu Yuena]: She cannot harm or attack you. If you die, she dies too. [Enhanced Charisma]: Your looks, figure, bearing, and more will keep improving until they reach the peak of this world. [Goddess Illustration System]: Gather the great goddesses and raise their affection to earn generous additional rewards. [Eternal Life]: As the inheritor of the Aeon of Abundance, you possess eternal life from birth. You cannot die, and your flesh will grow without limit. [Please accept all your selections. This system has completed its mission and will now take its leave. Good luck in this world! If we meet again, please give this system a thumbs-up!]
A trace of cheer ran through the exceedingly gentle electronic voice.
As the voice faded, the system floating before the boy vanished as well.
He watched the nine options turn into points of light and slowly sink into his body. Before his eyes, a huge illustrated compendium quietly opened.
It was the Goddess Illustration System, the one he had wanted most at the time.
"No, I mean, my biggest dream is to snuggle up with all sorts of girls and enjoy having one in each arm, but this is ridiculous."
"I just got here. You dump these choices on me, and then you leave?"
Helplessness colored the boy's voice. He truly had no idea what to do.
He looked at the livor mortis on his body, and his mouth twitched. He had no idea how long this body had been dead before he woke up in it, but it had clearly belonged to someone who had died.
As for that person's name, he knew nothing at all.
While he was thinking, he raised a hand slightly, and a jade-green branch appeared in it.
This body probably had not undergone Martial Soul Awakening. It seemed to have only just reached the right age before dying.
Yet as the branch appeared, a pure green Soul Ring quietly emerged around him, its color brimming with life.
There was something uncanny in that green. At a glance, it seemed to hold the holiest, gentlest power in the world.
The boy gently lifted the branch in both hands, and green light flecked his body.
Every mark of death vanished from his skin. His body returned to a sound, whole state.
Looking at his porcelain-white skin, the boy silently rose to his feet.
He seemed to be in a cellar. The space below was large, with puddles scattered across the ground. And besides him, there were quite a few corpses.
But the moment he had woken up, he had run into that damned system, and until now, all he had thought about was whether he could go back.
The boy sighed helplessly, walked to a puddle, and gazed down into it.
The first look startled him, to tell the truth. The owner of this body—or rather, his own new face—was far too beautiful.
Long lashes, a soft, lovely face, long pale-gold hair, and pale-gold eyes without a trace of black. At a glance, he looked less like a boy than a peerless beauty.
As he studied his reflection, the boy lowered his gaze. Only then did he realize that the two arms he had started with had quietly become six.
Yet the four new arms seemed completely under his control. With a thought, they disappeared, leaving only two arms hanging at his sides.
Looking at his fair skin, the boy sighed in silence.
"Great. A boy with a girl's face. I really have become the God of Abundance's inheritor."
The boy let out an exasperated sigh.
His name was Li Qingyue, already a somewhat feminine name. Paired with his current looks, he felt he could genuinely appeal to anyone.
At that thought, he looked around at the corpses strewn everywhere. He felt helpless; he did not even know where he was.
"I don't know where this is, but it shouldn't be a big problem. My Protector is Gu Yuena, after all. As long as even that biggest of loopholes can't kill me, doesn't that make me invincible?"
As Li Qingyue spoke, he raised his hand.
A jade-green mark appeared on his wrist. He drew on it to summon his Protector, Gu Yuena.
Sensing a subtle change within the mark, the boy's eyes flickered.
The next instant, an immense force smashed through the ceiling above him, which might have been made of wooden planks, perhaps with some steel mixed in.
A little girl came crashing down through the opening.
Dust billowed in every direction, and the acrid air made the boy cough twice.
But as the dust slowly cleared, the figure before him was not the curvaceous, breathtakingly beautiful Gu Yuena he had expected.
It was a white-haired, purple-eyed girl who looked about six, staring at him in confusion.
Looking at the adorable little girl before him, as delicately made as a carved jade doll, Li Qingyue's mouth twitched.
"So this body really was the same age as Tang Wulin when it died? We're all six this year? Six is great! No memories, no strength—am I going to die here right after coming back to life!?"
