Little Fatty was pulled to the edge of the lake, looking at Tang Fei expectantly. "Brother, can we drink this water?"
"Yes, we can," Tang Fei nodded.
So, Little Fatty plopped down on the ground with a "plop" and put his mouth directly into the lake water, drinking greedily.
After Little Fatty had his fill, he wanted to get his water canteens to fill them up. They had brought two canteens when they left, in case they couldn't find any drinkable fresh water.
Tang Fei grabbed him. "There's no rush. Did you forget why we came out here?"
Little Fatty blinked. "Why did we come out?"
"..."
Seeing Tang Fei about to get angry, Little Fatty quickly plastered on a smile. "Brother, I remember. We're here to find the tomb."
"Good, I thought you really believed we were out here just for a picnic."
"Brother, if we find the tomb, we're tomb robbers. If we don't, we're tourists."
Tang Fei looked at Little Fatty with surprise. The kid's words held a shrewd wisdom that seemed to see through the world and human nature.
It was a strategy that allowed for offense or defense.
Tang Fei patted Little Fatty on the shoulder. "It looks like we're tomb robbers then."
"Brother, did you find the ancient tomb?" Little Fatty looked around. "Didn't you say you were looking for Crescent Valley? Where is Crescent Valley?"
"The marker on the map is a crescent-shaped valley, right?" Tang Fei asked.
"Yeah."
"But we've been wandering in these mountains for days, and we haven't found any crescent-shaped valley. Valleys are usually straight. Where's the crescent shape?"
"Yeah," Little Fatty went into repeater mode.
Tang Fei pointed to the moon's reflection on the lake's surface. "What do you see here?"
"A crescent..."
Tang Fei drew a large circle with his hand. "What is this place?"
"A valley."
Little Fatty's eyes widened as he looked at Tang Fei. "Brother, Crescent Valley means a valley with a crescent in it?"
"Isn't that simple?" Tang Fei asked.
"It is simple," Little Fatty said.
Then he shook his head. "It's not simple. If it were up to me, I could drink all the water in this lake and still never guess that Crescent Valley meant looking at the moon's reflection in the water."
"That's true," Tang Fei agreed with Little Fatty's self-assessment.
Some seemingly complex things are actually simple. But the simplest things are often the most complex.
The map they had showed a crescent-shaped valley, so they searched for a crescent-shaped valley according to the map.
Without a genius brain, who could have imagined the truth was like this?
Fortunately, he was a genius.
"We've searched every valley in these mountains, and this is the only one with a lake... so I'm sure the ancient tomb is here."
"Underwater?"
"Of course," Tang Fei nodded. "It's already so obvious."
"Obvious?" Little Fatty stood by the lake and observed for a moment. "Brother, I don't see anything."
"Let's go. Prepare to get in the water," Tang Fei said, starting to equip his weapons.
He definitely needed to bring the pulse gun. Who knew what was inside the ancient tomb?
"Roger that!" Little Fatty agreed readily.
Even though he didn't understand, it was good that his big brother did. Whatever his big brother said, that's what they would do.
Most importantly, he got a chance to play with guns.
They packed their belongings and tied their horses to tree trunks. Regardless of whether they found anything, they would still need them to escape when they left.
Fully equipped, the two men each held a pulse gun and cautiously walked towards the center of the lake.
Tang Fei headed straight for the crescent shape in the middle of the lake. Little Fatty, not understanding why, followed closely.
The moment they stepped into the area covered by the crescent-shaped light, they vanished on the spot with a "whoosh."
In the blink of an eye, Tang Fei and Little Fatty found themselves standing before an ancient, antique black gate.
Little Fatty touched his clothes and exclaimed, "Why are my clothes dry? They were wet when we went into the water..."
"Keep your voice down," Tang Fei reminded him.
This must be a formation or barrier set up by some master. If they found the formation's eye, they would be automatically teleported to the entrance of the ancient tomb.
The gate was several meters high and several yards wide. It was neither gold nor copper, and they didn't know what material it was made from.
On either side of the gate, a pair of tall, imposing, uniquely styled guardian beasts crouched. Tang Fei examined them carefully. The left was a Taotie, and the right was a Qiongqi.
They were ugly and fierce. Although carved from stone, they exuded a brutal, world-weary aura that assaulted the senses.
Tang Fei and Little Fatty exchanged a look, both realizing the owner of the tomb was not someone to be trifled with.
As the saying goes, "When you beat a dog, you must consider its master."
From the appearance and demeanor of these two guardian beasts, they could tell the owner was no good person.
"Brother, what do we do?" Little Fatty asked.
"No matter how high your martial arts, you still fear a kitchen knife," Tang Fei said, patting the pulse gun he held. "Be it man or ghost, I'll give them a blast."
"Yeah, give them a blast!" Little Fatty, infected by Tang Fei's fervor, exclaimed excitedly.
Tang Fei reached out to push the door. The thick, dark portal remained unmoving.
"Brother, leave this brute force work to me," Little Fatty said.
He handed the pulse gun he was holding to Tang Fei, then placed his palms on the two door panels. With a shout, he put his full strength into it.
Rumble!
The ancient door slowly creaked open.
"Brother, the door wasn't locked," Little Fatty said.
Tang Fei didn't care if the door was locked or not; one blast would disable any lock.
He was more concerned about potential traps or hidden weapons.
Fortunately, there were none!
Tang Fei didn't reply, holding the pulse gun as he stepped through the doorway first.
Although Little Fatty's flesh was tougher and he could take more hits than Tang Fei, he didn't understand cultivation and lacked agility.
If there was danger ahead, it was more appropriate for Tang Fei, being in the Qi Control Realm, to handle it.
Little Fatty understood Tang Fei's thoughts and silently followed behind him.
The cave was pitch black, making it difficult for both Tang Fei and Little Fatty to see.
This was within Tang Fei's expectations. Just as he was about to reach into his backpack for lighting equipment, a vast, chilling aura instantly locked onto him.
Like a mountain collapsing, like a flood.
Surging, boundless.
Boom!
From sensing danger to being locked by the aura took only an instant, as if happening simultaneously.
Tang Fei felt a chill run down his spine, his hair standing on end, and a surge of ferocity in his heart.
He wanted to counterattack, but found his body completely unable to move.
The more he struggled, the more immense the aura locking onto him became, and the more terrifying the force of his resistance.
Pfft!
Unable to resist the power that felt like a descending deity, Tang Fei was hit head-on, spitting out a mouthful of blood.
"Brother, what's wrong?" Little Fatty cried out urgently.
He was also locked by the aura, but he hadn't attempted to struggle against it, and his symptoms were much milder than Tang Fei's.
Hearing Tang Fei cough up blood, Little Fatty became extremely anxious.
Not knowing what kind of injury his big brother had sustained, he thought it was a sneak attack.
Above the cave, a colossal head appeared.
The head was boundless, continuing to spread into the deeper recesses, seemingly too large to fit within the entire cave.
It had a leopard's head and bulging eyes, an iron face, and a curly beard. Its eyes were two blood-red orbs, as if filled with churning, ceaseless blood.
The cave was very dark, making it difficult to see. Cultivators' vision was extraordinary, yet seeing in such an environment was still incredibly challenging.
However, illuminated by those two blood-red eyes, the cave began to emit patches of red fluorescence.
This made the head appear even more evil and hideous.
"What insignificant vermin dare to trespass into my Fierce God's cave?" the head roared, opening its massive mouth.
Tang Fei and Little Fatty both felt as if it could swallow them whole with a single bite.
"I am Lu Yu," Tang Fei shouted. "Who are you?"
A Fierce God? He had never heard of such a deity.
But this power was truly formidable.
It felt like a single finger pressing down could grind him and Little Fatty into dust.
Cannot be an enemy, must not be an enemy.
The Fierce God did not answer Tang Fei, his mood growing more agitated. He roared, "Hurry and withdraw, and I shall spare your lives."
"Alright, alright, alright," Tang Fei agreed immediately, saying, "We'll retreat right now."
"If you withdraw your qi, we'll leave immediately and never disturb your rest again."
Tang Fei knew when to advance and when to retreat. If they couldn't win, they'd find another way.
When facing an opponent whose strength was on a completely different level, making them impossible to defeat even with clever tactics, the priority was to find a way to escape with their lives.
Let alone asking him to retreat, if you asked him to roll back, he could demonstrate 360 different fancy ways to roll away.
When it comes to running, we're professionals.
"Damn it!"
The Fierce God spoke to himself, as if he hadn't heard Tang Fei's "plea for mercy." He raised a skull hammer in his hand and smashed it fiercely towards Tang Fei and Little Fatty's heads.
Boom!
Yin Yang Qi that covered the sky and earth.
This aura was filled with negative emotions: bloodlust, murderous intent, despair, as if it were about to destroy heaven and earth.
(ps: I am the Fierce God, very, very fierce. This is a robbery, hand over all your votes!)
