"Did he confess?"
Jiang Hao had returned to his residence. Hearing the screams outside, he casually picked up his teacup.
"Cannon Bro is getting more and more brazen. He even wanted to destroy me..."
Beside him, Banner Bro looked at Jiang Hao and said quietly, "He confessed before we even hit him."
Jiang Hao nodded. "Good. I like that attitude."
"Keep hitting him until he stops confessing."
Outside the courtyard, Banner Bro looked at Cannon Bro's swollen, red backside and was rather speechless. "Why did you have to provoke the Main Body Old Rogue?
You know he repays every slight, don't you?
The Xuanming Sect merely knocked over some goods, and he signed their death warrant. After pulling this stunt, do you still expect to get by?"
With a helpless sigh, Banner Bro raised the wooden paddle and brought it down hard on Cannon Bro's backside again.
"I take it back! Stop torturing me, please! I'm willing to study Soul Tools!" Cannon Bro wailed, tears streaming down his face.
Jiang Hao said, disappointed in him, "See? This was all a misunderstanding. You've beaten my general's backside red. Hurry, help him up."
Jiang Hao stood, pushed open the pavilion door, and let Cannon Bro inside.
Despite taking ten blows from the paddle, he had almost no visible injuries. His backside just hurt.
Watching Cannon Bro rub his backside, too afraid to sit, Jiang Hao was rather speechless. "This is my fault. I should've sent you all to the Junior Soul Master Academy sooner.
Now you're all practically illiterate. Apart from a little basic Soul Beast theory,
you don't know or understand a thing.
This time, I'm entrusting you with the important task of broadening your knowledge. I hope you'll give me a satisfactory result."
Jiang Hao straightened Cannon Bro's clothes. He had already used several Soul Skills to reshape Cannon Bro's somewhat weathered face into that of a fresh-faced boy.
"That's more like it. Here, put on this schoolbag. Big brother's taking you to school!"
With the last troublemaker brought to heel, Cannon Bro, Beard Bro, and Four Wood Bro were enrolled in Dragon City's Junior Soul Master Academy. Registration fell on these two days; if they missed this autumn intake, they would have to wait until the following autumn.
"See? We made it just in time." Jiang Hao patted the three on their shoulders as they reached the gates of Dragon City's Junior Soul Master Academy.
A thin layer of snow covered the entire campus. Only a few parents dropping off their children could be seen at the gate.
"Good thing only Cannon Bro has absorbed a Soul Ring. If Beard Bro and Glasses Bro hadn't been born at the wrong time, they'd already be two-ring Soul Grandmasters. Sending them to the Junior Soul Master Academy would be a waste of their talents." Jiang Hao straightened the three students' collars as he spoke. Owl Bro stood beside him across the road from the campus.
"Main Body Old Rogue, the Earth Dragon Sect has already taken care of their enrollment. Getting them in was effortless." Owl Bro pushed up a pair of rimless glasses that had appeared from who knew where. They rather suited him.
Jiang Hao thought nothing of it. Money could make even ghosts turn a millstone; with enough of it, anything was negotiable, let alone enrolling three ordinary children in an obscure Junior Soul Master Academy.
Once the three were inside, there would be nothing else to do here. He could go see how Wanmin Hall's opening was coming along.
A commotion suddenly broke out at the school gate. A chubby boy with yellow hair shoved a boy whose clothes had been washed nearly white to the ground. The boy rolled in the snow, and the chubby boy even kicked him twice!
"Peasant, you think you can compare yourself to me? I was born with rank-seven Soul Power! You're just trash who awakened with rank-three Soul Power!
What gives you the right to be my classmate?
What gives you the right to say we should all get along? You? I'm not playing with some peasant's son!"
The chubby yellow-haired boy wore expensive clothes. He took out a handkerchief and wiped the trouser leg he had kicked with,
as though it had touched something disgusting.
The boy he had kicked away stubbornly climbed to his feet, too frightened to say a word.
It had all happened so suddenly. He had only wanted to get along with the boy in front of him. After all, the boy was well dressed and seemed to come from a good family. If he stayed close to him, perhaps he would not be bullied.
That was all.
Yet that one remark had angered the boy and earned him two kicks for nothing.
The boy, thin as a reed, staggered upright and tried to apologize, but the yellow-haired boy kicked him down again. "I didn't say you could get up. Who gave you the nerve?
Kneel and apologize, and this young master will spare you!"
"Main Body Old Rogue, can I teach him a lesson?" Cannon Bro's voice had barely sounded in Jiang Hao's mind when a pink blur slammed into the yellow-haired boy. A child cried out in pain as he was knocked into a gate guard.
"Who was that? Who dared hit me?" The chubby yellow-haired boy glared around him, but still saw no one.
"What are you looking at, big dummy?
I'm right here!" A lively voice came from directly in front of him.
The scruffy-haired boy looked down again. A small fist, accompanied by a dragon's roar, struck him square in the face and knocked out his two front teeth.
"Dragon City isn't a place for outsiders like you to run wild!
Remember this: if you dare bully the children here again, you'll answer to me!
Every commoner student at this academy is under my protection. Remember my name—Nan Qiuqiu of the Earth Dragon Sect! If I see you bullying a classmate again, I'll beat you up again!"
The yellow-haired boy's swollen face twisted as he prepared to lash out, but at the words "Earth Dragon Sect," he instinctively stepped back. He knew that name all too well. His father had come here to do business precisely to curry favor with the Earth Dragon Sect and the Heavenly Dragon Sect, the two great dragon-attribute sects. If he offended someone from the Earth Dragon Sect, his father would probably beat him to death.
"I won't! I'll never do it again!" the chubby boy said, then ran off.
Sanpao Bro saw Nan Qiuqiu about to enter the academy. A brilliant idea flashed through his mind, and he immediately stepped forward.
"Miss, if I'm not mistaken, your Martial Soul has a unique attribute, doesn't it?"
Jiang Hao doubled over so sharply that he fell flat on the ground.
Owl Bro kept his face calm, but his mind churned. Voices rang out across his spiritual sea of consciousness: "What the hell? Are you trying to recreate Grandmaster's famous scene?"
The Clones in the spiritual sea of consciousness were drawn in by the spectacle too. "Damn, Cannon Bro's got guts! He says what he thinks and does what he says. He's really about to become a Grandmaster!"
Jiang Hao had barely recovered when Nan Qiuqiu spun around and gave Cannon Bro a long look up and down.
At the moment, Cannon Bro had a handsome look that ought to appeal to girls.
"Who are you? How did you know?"
Nan Qiuqiu was suspicious, but her childish curiosity made her ask anyway.
"Nothing special. I simply observed... That punch of yours struck his chest, and it wasn't very hard.
Yet it burned away a patch of his shirt. I think...
Only that patch was destroyed. The damage didn't spread like a fire would. Therefore!
Your attribute is either fire or an extremely rare special attribute—Annihilation."
Cannon Bro clasped his hands behind his back and slowly walked past Nan Qiuqiu. He tilted his head skyward at a forty-five-degree angle, striking the pose of a profound Grandmaster.
"You're so smart!"
"So which is it? Fire or Annihilation?"
At just the right moment, Cannon Bro turned his head and looked down from three steps above at Nan Qiuqiu, who was a head taller than he was.
"No, no, I can't tell you my attribute is Annihilation. It's too rare. Mother said I mustn't tell anyone, for my own safety."
Owl Bro's face darkened.
Cannon Bro's face darkened.
