Recruitment and Early Training

Ma Hongjun is an orphan raised in the countryside. At six years old, he joins Shrek Academy after Flender awakens his martial soul and takes him as a disciple. Oscar, then eight, introduces him to the academy and becomes his principal day-to-day guide 3 64 80.

Training beside Oscar transforms his habits and physique. After obtaining his first spirit ring, he confidently challenges his senior, only to lose and learn the importance of conserving Soul Power. Subsequent matches develop into a lasting friendly rivalry 5 9 10.

During a visit to Suotuo City, Bu Le beats him. Oscar postpones retaliation after learning that Bu Le is a Soul Elder with companions, while Zhao Wuji agrees to accompany the students and intervene if necessary 14.

Overcoming Evil Fire

His Evil Fire becomes painful enough to require Gai Yue's ice-attribute Soul Power for relief. This treatment eases individual outbreaks but cannot remove their cause. Following Oscar's advice, Flender selects a phoenix-bloodline beast for his second ring; the resulting ability lets Ma Hongjun consume accumulated Evil Fire as additional attack power 30 31.

Oscar later sends him the Phoenix Nirvana Pill through Gai Yue. It permanently resolves the Evil Fire problem, strengthens and purifies his flames, and accelerates his cultivation. Ma Hongjun continues training with the ambition of defeating Oscar fairly and making him call him “Brother Jun” 64.

Shrek's Tournament Campaign

Ma Hongjun moves with his classmates to the new Shrek Academy in Heaven Dou City, where Shrek Class One receives villas, dedicated training grounds, and individualized simulated cultivation environments. After spirit bone absorption brings him to Level 50, Oscar arranges a fifth-ring challenge requiring him to personally defeat a weakened Blazing Fire Phoenix 157 162 165.

Initially held in reserve during the academy tournament, he reveals his Level 55 strength against Star Luo Royal Academy. He overwhelms enemy Soul Ancestors, protects Ning Rongrong from a mirror-user's ambush, and helps counter the opposing Hell White Tiger. Following Shrek's championship, Oscar gives him the Flame Burning Explosive Right Arm Bone. Ning Rongrong accepts Shi Nian's head soul bone as an engagement token on Ma Hongjun's behalf 217.

As a Level 67 member of Third Prince's Team, Ma Hongjun fights in the National Elite Spirit Master Soul Dueling Tournament. His flames and binding chains help defeat Holy Dragon Sect's White Armored Earth Dragon, while Phoenix Nirvana enables him to recover from Feng Qinglong's devastating Storm Dragon Head and counterattack 299 300 304 305.
