Ch. 21Demon Valley

Key plot points and events

  • After Tang San is injured, Oscar gives the Shrek group Flying Mushroom Sausages, allowing them to pursue Lu Mingzi through the air.
  • Lu Mingzi escapes with his Demonic Angel Wings, a power he can use for only two minutes. Its cost is three days without Soul Skills, but he judges the risk acceptable.
  • He reaches an immense, unfamiliar canyon marked on a beast-hide map. Demonic Thought recognizes it as Demon Valley, where a previous inheritor of their Martial Soul was buried after battling the Azure Divine Dragon.
  • Hoping to absorb the inheritor’s remaining Divine Yin Power and strengthen himself, Lu Mingzi enters the valley. At a three-way fork, he uses the resonance between their Angel Martial Souls to locate the correct passage.
  • In a cave, he finds a Titan Giant Ape statue and realizes the map fits a recess in its body. Inserting it opens a hidden underground passage.
  • Tang San’s group reaches the valley entrance. Zhao Wuji cannot detect Lu Mingzi’s trail beyond it and decides to wait three days, expecting Lu Mingzi either to die inside or emerge so he can cripple him.

Character developments and interactions

  • Lu Mingzi shows resolve and strategic thinking, accepting the temporary loss of his Soul Skills to escape. Though wary of the unknown valley, he commits to it when the alternative—entering the forest’s deadly inner region—is worse.
  • Demonic Thought reveals fragments of its recovered memories and gives Lu Mingzi crucial information, though it admits it does not know the valley’s route. It guides him to use Martial Soul resonance instead.
  • Tang San pursues Lu Mingzi in anger over the injuries to Xiao Wu and his teacher. Zhao Wuji takes responsibility for having underestimated the situation and vows to punish Lu Mingzi.

Significant themes

  • Risk and survival: Lu Mingzi must choose between two dangerous paths and relies on judgment rather than certainty.
  • Hidden inheritance and memory: Demon Valley links Lu Mingzi’s present power to a buried predecessor and Demonic Thought’s incomplete past.
  • Pursuit and escalating conflict: Tang San’s group closes in, while Lu Mingzi’s discovery of the hidden passage offers a chance to gain power—and introduces new unknown dangers.

Ch. 22Song Feng

Plot points

  • In the Demon Valley, Lu Mingzi discovers a hidden passage and finds an inscription from Song Feng, a former Demonic Angel successor who became a titled Douluo. Song Feng recounts that Rakshasa corrupted his Demonic Thought, disrupted his divine trial, and led to his defeat by the Azure Divine Dragon.
  • The inscription invites a worthy visitor to step forward. Lu Mingzi accepts, opening a chamber where Song Feng’s preserved spirit emerges from a stone coffin.
  • Song Feng recognizes Lu Mingzi’s Demonic Angel Martial Soul and transfers a massive amount of Divine Yin Power into him. Lu Mingzi’s Soul Power surges from level 32 to level 40, but the uncontrolled energy threatens to tear him apart.
  • Song Feng gives Lu Mingzi five minutes to hunt and absorb two Soul Rings, reaching Soul King, or the stored energy will detonate and kill him. Lu Mingzi rushes out to meet the deadline.
  • Meanwhile, Qian Renxue tracks Lu Mingzi to the Star Dou Great Forest. Ci Xue reveals he followed because the Great Enshrined ordered him to protect her. Qian Renxue identifies Lu Mingzi’s trail, and they set off after him.

Character developments and interactions

  • Lu Mingzi shows resolve by accepting Song Feng’s trial despite the danger. His demonic markings have spread as he grows stronger, and he remains composed under Song Feng’s overwhelming aura and brutal ultimatum.
  • Song Feng is revealed as a powerful but confined remnant, waiting in the chamber for a suitable inheritor. Though he gives Lu Mingzi a potentially life-threatening boost, he tests him rather than offering an easy inheritance.
  • Demonic Thought warns Lu Mingzi not to withdraw his Martial Soul and identifies Song Feng’s energy as Divine Yin Power.
  • Qian Renxue and Ci Xue have a tense but familiar exchange: she questions his presence, while he insists he must protect her. She takes the lead in tracking Lu Mingzi.

Significant themes

  • Power and its cost: Lu Mingzi’s rapid advancement brings immediate physical danger.
  • Inheritance and worthiness: Song Feng’s legacy must be earned through a perilous test.
  • Ambition and corruption: Song Feng’s pursuit of ultimate strength was derailed by Rakshasa’s interference.
  • Loyalty and duty: Ci Xue follows Qian Renxue out of obligation, while Qian Renxue pursues Lu Mingzi independently.
