Ch. 121The Great Battle, Part Four
Summary
Key plot points and events
- Jiraiya, fighting in Sage Mode, joins Kakashi, Hiruzen, Kazekage Rasa, and Killer B against Nagato. Their coordinated attacks drive Nagato onto the defensive.
- Jiraiya’s combined Sage Art—powered by oil, wind, and fire—creates an immense blaze. Kakashi and Hiruzen strengthen it, but Nagato repels the flames with Shinra Tensei.
- Rasa’s gold dust and Killer B’s Tailed Beast Bomb also fail to finish Nagato, though the Bomb injures him.
- Nagato answers with a colossal Wood Golem wrapped in a Wood Dragon. Jiraiya organizes a plan to restrain it while Killer B prepares a full-power attack.
- Kakashi drops the Golem into a deep pit; Jiraiya and Hiruzen bog it down with swamp techniques, and Rasa pins it with a massive gold-dust block.
- Killer B completes his Eight-Tails transformation and fires a Tailed Beast Bomb as large as the beast itself. Rasa’s block prevents Nagato from escaping upward.
- Nagato raises a wooden demon-faced shield and reinforces the Golem with the Wood Dragon, but the Bomb strikes before he can fully defend himself. The resulting explosion engulfs the surrounding mountains and sends a shock wave across the battlefield. Allied shinobi and fighters on another front brace for impact.
Character developments and interactions
- Jiraiya takes charge, combining his Sage abilities with his teammates’ strengths and directing a coordinated strategy rather than relying on individual attacks.
- Kakashi, Hiruzen, and Rasa each support that plan: Kakashi reshapes the terrain, Hiruzen and Jiraiya restrict the Golem, and Rasa prevents Nagato’s escape.
- Killer B and Gyuki deliver the decisive attack, with Gyuki also protecting the nearby allies inside his curled defensive form.
- Nagato shows the breadth of his power through both the Rinnegan and formidable Wood Release, but the team’s cooperation forces him into increasingly desperate defenses.
- The allies demonstrate trust and quick coordination, responding immediately to Jiraiya’s instructions and Killer B’s call to regroup.
Significant themes
- Teamwork against overwhelming power: The shinobi combine complementary abilities to restrain an enemy no one can defeat alone.
- Strategy and adaptation: The group repeatedly changes tactics—from fire and force to terrain control and a final coordinated strike.
- Escalating destructive power: The battle’s scale grows from individual techniques to an explosion that threatens distant battlefields.
