When President Cruz and President Reilsa saw Xu Yi appear before them with a group of fully armed elves wearing fitted leather armor, they were both stunned.
The corner of President Cruz's mouth twitched. He managed a smile and held out his hand to President Reilsa. "A bet's a bet, President Reilsa. Pay up."
President Reilsa stared at the elves behind Xu Yi for a long while before taking a gold coin from inside his clothes and handing it to President Cruz. Shaking his head, he sighed deeply. "President Xu really is extraordinary. He actually managed to bring elves here as guards. This has truly opened my eyes."
Their exchange left Xu Yi rather puzzled.
"Did you two make a bet?"
President Cruz smiled as he carefully tucked the gold coin into his pocket, then nodded to Xu Yi. "Yes, President Reilsa and I made a little bet. I bet you could hire elf guards, and he bet you couldn't. Well, naturally, I won. Haha..."
Xu Yi was speechless. One of these men is nearly fifty, and the other is over forty, yet they still have the time to bet on something so trivial.
Even more absurd was that both their merchant guilds earned several million gold coins a year, yet their wager had been a mere single gold coin!
Not bothering with the two men, who were still arguing over whether these elves really counted as Xinfei Merchant Guild guards, Xu Yi looked toward a line of wagons nearby and asked, "Has everything arrived?"
