A week earlier, a border patrol from the Seventh Battalion of the Fourth Border Defense Regiment of the Third Border Defense Army had been attacked here by the Rulson Kingdom Border Defense Army. Of the patrol's fifteen soldiers, only two escaped. All thirteen of the others were killed.

His Majesty the Emperor was furious. He outright rejected the imperial upper house's proposal to demand an explanation and sufficient compensation from the Rulson Kingdom, instead ordering the Military Department to launch an immediate retaliatory operation.
