The bridge's vaulted ceiling resembled a spectral expanse of stars, countless holographic projections and flickering streams of data flowing through the darkness.
Guilliman sat upon the Command Throne, his fingers pressed against his temple, unmistakable exhaustion filling his eyes.
The crew moved back and forth around him, keeping their voices low. Everyone could sense the heavy tension surrounding the primarch, like the stillness before a storm.
But what truly gave him a headache was not the strain of operating the warship, but the distant, frenzied shouting coming from deep behind him.
"Magnus! Magnus! Magnus!"
The voices carried through deck after deck, like beasts howling in a cage.
It was the Word Bearers.
These warriors, who should have been their brothers, had suddenly gone mad. They surged toward the bridge in a frenzy, trying to seize the warship and plunge into the warp, all while shouting the name of the Thousand Sons' primarch.
Fortunately, the Ultramarines reacted swiftly. Before the chaos could spread throughout the ship, they knocked every last fanatic unconscious with rifle butts and armored fists, then dragged them into detention cells in the lower decks.
Guilliman closed his eyes and drew a deep breath, considering everything happening around him.
"I'll kill you! Kill you!" The final shrill roar was cut off by a closing hatch, fading into a muffled echo.
The bridge fell quiet again, leaving only the steady hum of instruments.
"Has something happened to Lorgar, or to Magnus..." Guilliman murmured to himself.
His gaze settled on the Holographic Star Chart. The boundless galaxy slowly revolved before him, yet hidden currents seemed to lurk everywhere.
He tried to work it out, but lacked sufficient information.
Guilliman, Lion El'Jonson, and Sanguinius had been dispatched to the Imperium's frontier to deal with the surviving Rangdan remnants.
These
