It hung at the outer edge of the Colchis Star System, a planet forgotten by the grace of its sun.

An eternity of frozen night had been its only Fate, until the vast engineering fleets of the Adeptus Mechanicus arrived.

Crisscrossing Orbit rings clasped the planet like ribs of steel. The countless fusion reactors and immense light-refraction arrays mounted upon them formed an artificial environmental system capable of deceiving the laws of nature themselves.

The cold darkness was banished. Precisely simulated "daylight" and "night" alternated to a preset rhythm, illuminating artificial continents below, as orderly and forbidding as a court of law.

There were no seasons here, no shifting winds or clouds, only constant, precise, unquestionable "operation."

Yet throughout the vast Colchis Star System, the name "Truth Star" was known neither for its miraculous artificial ecology nor for the lofty meaning of its name.

Its "reputation" came from a unique facility on its surface, built at Primarch Lorgar's personal command with the Emperor's tacit approval.

It bore a name that could make any corrupt Imperial dignitary, treacherous human scum, or arrogant xenos warlord tremble in their nightmares.

Its full name was the Colchis Heresy Tribunal. It was also known as the Colchis Department of Doctrine.

It owed allegiance to only one master: Lorgar, Primarch of the Word Bearers Legion.

The origins of this special department could be traced back to the formal return of Konrad Curze, lord of the Night Lords Legion, to the Imperial fold.

Curze believed that the Night Lords' terror tactics should be used against the Imperium's enemies. But there were also cancers that parasitized the Imperium from within, hollowing out its foundations and betraying its people: corrupt nobles, negligent officials, and degenerate dignitaries.
