Ding Xiu's voice was remarkably calm amid the violent rush of air and the engines' roar.
He did not look at the wrecked aircraft outside the Observation Window as it fell, burned, and finally erupted into an even larger fireball on the ground. He merely watched the increasingly dense blood-red mist ahead, as though his question had nothing to do with the terrible sacrifice before them.
Pei Min's gaze likewise remained fixed on the Stormbird's course.
He fell silent for a moment, his face beneath his Helmet alternately lit and shadowed by the flashing red lights in the cabin.
Then he spoke, his voice carrying through the Communications Channel with a clarity and coldness that cut through the din:
"Death. And anger."
He meant the final blaze of the pilot who had willingly flown to his death, as well as the endless, twisted bloodlust that permeated this desecrated land.
"I also saw Mortals' courage, Pei Min," Ding Xiu replied. His voice barely changed, yet carried a heavy weight.
