"All right..."
Lorgar's voice carried a barely perceptible trace of weary futility, mingled with reserve about Anna's method of digging up "clues."
He and Anna continued wandering aimlessly across this barren set of coordinates, thoroughly "ironed flat" by time and oblivion. Their boots made a monotonous rustling against the pale gray sand. Apart from that, there was only Terra's eternally lifeless wind, stirring fine dust into spirals in the air.
Beyond that vague name of mysterious origin and Anna's account of the tangled timeline of her own existence, they had found nothing.
There was no entrance to an ancient facility, no energy signature, no hidden information node, not even a halfway substantial piece of wreckage to prove this place had once held any special significance.
"What's the rush?"
Anna spoke with her usual breezy certainty that everything was under control, though just what she had "under control" was often anyone's guess.
She stopped walking. Instead of studying the featureless sand beneath her feet, she raised her arm and pointed a finger, sheathed in a strange, faintly gleaming material, straight toward an enormous silhouette in the distant wasteland, stark against the low-hanging sky and drifting haze of dust.
"We're here," she said simply.
Lorgar looked where she pointed. It was a ruined building so immense that it felt oppressive even from several kilometers away.
He could just make out the skeleton of a church, but its scale far exceeded anything ordinary.
The structure seemed to have suffered a catastrophic collapse that began from within. Its enormous dome was long gone, leaving only a few broken, colossal stone pillars pointing skyward like a giant's ribs.
The walls had crumbled, though sections of the outer walls still stood stubbornly. They were riddled with grotesque bullet holes and blast scorch marks left by heavy
