His narrow, faintly luminous eyes were fixed on Anna, his pupils filled with terror and disbelief.

He pointed a trembling finger at Anna, his voice turned shrill by fear as it echoed through the hall like the screech of a cat whose tail had been stepped on.

Legends shared among the Aeldari survivors flashed through his mind, tales of the daemon who had destroyed an entire Craftworld.

Their kin consumed by fire and steel, the warriors reduced to blood mist within the gray fog, the Primarch standing atop mountains of corpses and seas of blood with the Imperium's banner held high, and the smiling daemon at his side.

"Thanks for the compliment. I had no idea I was that formidable." Anna's voice was as calm as ever, even carrying a hint of pleased amusement.

Before she had finished speaking, her arm had already begun to change.

Her once smooth, fair skin instantly transformed into flowing liquid metal, then solidified again into a long, narrow blade gleaming with cold light.

The transformation was too fast for the naked eye to follow.

By the next breath, the blade had already swept across the Aeldari Ranger's neck.
