With the clearance afforded by his identity as "Captain Ans," Sergeant Griffins's infiltration went remarkably smoothly.

Following the busy transport crews, he passed through successive identity checks and heavily guarded port gates, then entered the large Transport Ship named Silence.

A peculiar smell permeated the Ship's interior, a mixture of machine oil, disinfectant, and some unidentifiable chemical compound. The corridor walls were the Healing Brotherhood's signature pure white, and the lighting was cold and uniform, creating the illusion of being inside an enormous medical instrument—clean, but lifeless.

Griffins wasted no time. Following the procedures expected of "Captain Ans," he first made a brief report to the bridge. Then, on the pretext of needing to familiarize himself with the Transport Ship's layout and plan its security arrangements, he smoothly secured a small private cabin intended for mid-ranking officers in the crew quarters.

The cabin door slid silently shut behind him and locked, temporarily shutting out the noise and surveillance of the outside world.

He was alone in the small space, but Griffins did not relax immediately. Like an instrument of the utmost precision, he moved swiftly and silently into action.

He first paced the cabin with apparent nonchalance, his fingers casually brushing the walls, the edge of the bed, and the desktop. In reality, he was using miniature sensors concealed beneath his fingernails to scan for hidden surveillance or listening devices.

The Alpha Legion's masters of infiltration never entrusted their safety to luck.

Once he had confirmed that his surroundings were relatively secure, he sat on the cold metal chair and half closed his eyes. He appeared to be resting, but his mind raced far faster than any ordinary human's, developing a detailed plan of action.

A clear schematic of the entire Transport Ship took shape in his mind.
