"Physical attacks aren't working! Close the gate! Hold it off!"
The Word Bearers sergeant in command made his decision without hesitation.
His gaze swept over the corridor's structure as he rapidly assessed the situation.
Physical attacks were ineffective against this Ringwraith. They could not inflict any real damage on it, and continuing to fire would only waste Ammunition and time.
His gaze settled on the red gate-control button on the corridor wall. It controlled the Emergency Isolation System, which could seal off sections of the corridor in an emergency to contain fires, radiation leaks, or enemy breakthroughs.
He watched the Ringwraith draw closer, its black silhouette advancing steadily through the exploding Bolts.
The sergeant knew he had little time left.
He reached out decisively and slammed his hand down on the red button when the Ringwraith was less than ten metres away.
A moment later, a heavy metal gate descended from the tracks in the ceiling with a piercing metallic screech, throwing off a shower of sparks as it slid down.
The gate was made of reinforced, high-strength alloy more than fifty centimetres thick, enough to withstand a direct hit from heavy artillery.
As it fell, it sealed the sergeant and ten Word Bearers warriors on the other side, cutting them off from the Teleportation Chamber and the main force.
"Hold it off! Don't let it near the Teleportation Chamber!" The sergeant's voice rang out over the Communications Channel, resolute and unwavering.
He turned to face the approaching shadow, raised his Bolter, and emptied every remaining round into it.
The Bolter fire grew ever more intense, filling the corridor with an unbroken roar.
