Ch. 1081First Prize
Plot points and events
- A Chaos daemon incursion erupts aboard the Macragge’s Honour, with Tzeentch daemons and apparent Thousand Sons warriors pouring from the lower decks.
- The daemons’ shifting forms, psychic attacks, and mind-controlling chants devastate the mortal crew. Soldiers turn their weapons on one another, while others ignite in soul-burning blue flames.
- Ultramarines hold the ship’s corridors with bolters and barricades, but each defensive line falls as more enemies emerge. A hundred Marines are killed, and contact with their primarch—trapped in storms on a distant blue planet—is lost.
- The surviving defenders retreat toward the bridge, expecting no rescue. Then a monstrous roar rises from below.
- The daemons advancing up the stairs encounter hundreds of newly freed Word Bearers. Still marked by their imprisonment, the warriors form a wall of gray armor, weapons trained on the horde. Their captain, wielding a smoking power hammer, cries out Magnus’s name.

- The mortal soldiers’ confidence in the Space Marines collapses as they face enemies their weapons and courage cannot overcome.
- The Ultramarines remain disciplined and determined, but their defenses fail under relentless pressure; their calls for their primarch give way to grim acceptance.
- The Word Bearers shift from prisoners to a united, fanatical fighting force, suggesting a dramatic turn in the battle.
