The Astartes had not seen the earlier battle between the Bodyguard and the Skorpekh Lord, but the appearance of a Necron Destroyer Lord on the battlefield clearly put them under far greater pressure.
This kind of Necron had an antigravity Destroyer Platform and looked somewhat like a mantis without legs.
Its upper body retained a humanoid structure, with a Necron Mark and a Dynasty emblem etched into its head.
The enormous War Scythe in its hand radiated the green glow distinctive to Necron Energy.
Its hovering platform gave the Destroyer Lord mobility far beyond that of the Skorpekh Lord.
It moved much faster, too.
When the Bodyguard Robot faced the incoming War Scythe of this enemy, on which it had little reference data, its first response was to raise its longsword into the path of the attack.
The battle with the Skorpekh Lord had already severely damaged that weapon, and the scythe blade traced a streak of green light as it swept forward with tremendous force.
The longsword extending from the Bodyguard Robot's wrist was severed through the middle, while the War Scythe's absurdly long haft gave it an enormous reach.
Along with the broken section of sword blade, the Bodyguard Robot's oval mechanical head went flying.
The phase field carried by the scythe blade erased part of the alloy casing on the Bodyguard Robot's neck and head as it passed.
The metal head landed on the ground with a dull sound.
Thud!
Seeing that its opponent seemed unable to move, the Destroyer Lord let out a shrill, raucous laugh, apparently delighted with its attack. It turned toward the Greyshields Astartes trying to cover the Bodyguard Robot, ready to indulge in a satisfying slaughter.
Screech!
A piercing scrape of metal rang out.
The headless Bodyguard Robot reached out with a
