The visit from the two Ultramarines came as something of a surprise to the captain of the Resolute.
But when he actually met the two angels, another surprise awaited him.
The two Ultramarines immediately wore strange expressions when they saw Iax, who had come over out of curiosity to see what was happening. Then they opened their mission recorders and studied them for quite some time.
After repeatedly comparing Iax's appearance against the recordings, they kept watching his every move.
"My lords, is something wrong?"
The captain of the Resolute asked nervously.
Although he knew Iax was an Ancient Construct, the Imperium's use of ancient technological creations was hardly unusual.
Iax had also demonstrated terrifying combat capabilities, far surpassing even the Astartes.
Moreover, Iax had already undergone a joint inspection by the Ordo Hereticus and the Adeptus Mechanicus, and two Sages had vouched for him. Although the Black Templars had departed, the Dark Angels had remained aboard the ship.
Thus, almost everyone aboard treated him as a special kind of Space Marine.
Yet now, with the two Ultramarines staring at him like this, perhaps they had discovered something amiss?
Although Iax scanned every humanoid he encountered to compare their genes, he did not stare at them constantly, and his scanner operated unobtrusively.
Being stared at so intently, however, clearly made him somewhat uncomfortable.
"While I understand your curiosity about me, please explain your current behavior."
At Iax's question, the exchange began.
Adrian, wearing a red sergeant's helmet, tapped the combat recorder on his wrist with a finger and nodded to Calando.
Calando nodded in return.
"Man of Iron, at the great Primarch's request, I was ordered to search for you near the planet Vostonia."
Search for me?
Calando's words left Iax even more confused.
Seemingly noticing Iax's confusion, Calando explained.
