The ships' power cores were even more of a "masterpiece."
They had set their sights on a huge but nearly defunct Plasma Reactor in the main power district of Bastion of Resolve, which supplied electricity to the entire lower hive.
Dismantling it was a disaster. Explosions and energy leaks killed over a hundred boys, but this was taken as proof that it had "a proper kick."
Using massive I-beams and thick steel plates, the Mekboy Boys welded together a huge, ugly frame covered in reinforcing ribs on-site, then forcibly crammed the wildly unstable behemoth into the freighter's once-empty, utterly unsuitable engine compartment.
The cooling system was a crude combination of enormous radiators stripped from the hive's heating pipes and industrial fans.
The power conduits were haphazardly connected with ultra-high-voltage cables thicker than a thigh, their insulation in tatters.
The entire engine compartment looked like a boiler room ready to explode at any moment, radiating terrifying heat and an eerie blue glow.
As for weapons, those were the very soul of the Orks.
Weapons were welded all over the ships' platforms, decks, and even their protruding "patches."
Besides the traditional Ork assortment of boom guns in every caliber, rocket pods, and heavy machine-gun turrets, the most eye-catching weapons were the Gauss Weapons stripped from the tombs and given "Orky" modifications, along with the astonishingly large Autocannon Turrets taken from the hive's walls.
Some were welded directly to the decks as fixed gun emplacements, others mounted on crude rotating turrets. A few had even been connected in series by several Mekboy Boys in a flight of fancy, in an attempt to create a bigger "disintegration beam."
In practice, the accuracy and safety of these things left a great deal to be desired.
Often, the very first test shot erased the gun emplacement
