Personality

Zhang Ping is outspoken, proud, and quick to confront unfair treatment. She openly challenges Li Kai over a training room, but her temper makes her vulnerable to provocation: his “drenched chicken” insult draws her into a contest despite her awareness of his physical advantages 7.

She enjoys compliments and takes pride in her appearance. Xu Xiaonian’s greeting of “pretty big sister” delights her, especially because Xu Yu habitually calls her a tomboy. When Xiaonian later refers to the team’s “two gorgeous girls,” she immediately points out that there are three 6 8.

Forming the Graduation-Exam Team

Zhang Ping first appears with Xu Yu in the academy’s Academic Affairs Office, attempting to register a graduation-exam team without enough members or a team name. She invites Hu Liena to join and suggests including the newly enrolling Xu Xiaonian to satisfy the lower-year-student requirement. Xu Xiaotang subsequently joins, completing the five-member group 6 7.

Initially, Zhang Ping treats Xiaonian as someone who can merely fill the required place on the team. She dismisses his interest in becoming captain because of his age, then agrees to Hu Liena’s proposal to select a leader through physical testing 6 7.

Training-Room Wager

A dispute over the last training room brings the team into conflict with Li Kai and Sun Chuantao. Zhang Ping protests Teacher Li’s favoritism toward his nephew, Li Kai, but follows Li Kai into the testing room after he taunts her. She angrily accepts the challenge, whose proposed stakes include an unwanted dinner date for the team’s girls 7 8.

Xiaonian renegotiates the wager and wins decisively with 3,058 kilograms of strength and 999 talent points. Zhang Ping is embarrassed by how thoroughly she underestimated him, admitting that she was the one merely making up the numbers. The team then recognizes him as captain 9.

Graduation Examination

Zhang Ping is excited when Nian’s Team draws Yan’s Team in the semifinals. She accepts Hu Liena’s strategy and trusts Xiaonian to handle the final confrontation 16.

Before the examination, a crude joke from Xiaonian provokes her into challenging him. He defeats her within three minutes, leaving superficial injuries that Xu Xiaotang heals; Xiaonian agrees to compensate her with a feast 17.

During the semifinal, Xiaonian’s teammates lose their fighting strength before he defeats Yan, Li Kai, and Sun Chuantao. Witnessing his true power leaves Zhang Ping shaken by her earlier willingness to provoke him. Their final opponents forfeit, and the graduating members of Nian’s Team earn tuition-free admission to the advanced academy without an entrance examination 19 20.
