Power Progression
The ranks below track the Soul Power shared through the Fire Qilin’s bond with Ye Han, alongside its documented skill gains and evolution.
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Rank 28 — two-ring Soul Grandmaster | 1 | Already possesses Green Lotus Core Flame and Fallen Heart Flame. Channels their fusion during Ye Han’s first displayed Buddha’s Fury Fire Lotus attempt. |
| Rank 29 — Soul Grandmaster | 2 | Ye Han reports the new rank after the assessment against Yu Tianheng. The Qilin demonstrates Qilin Step and two successive Qilin’s Breath enhancements. |
| Rank 30 — third-ring threshold | 8 | Reached after Ye Han’s medicinal tempering at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. During the ordeal, the Qilin’s steady aura and rising strength help Dugu Bo judge its host’s condition. |
| Rank 32 — third soul ring | 10 | Absorbs the purple ring of a roughly 4,500-year-old Sunfire Golden Disc Flower. Gains Three Thousand Burning Flame and the third soul skill, Blazing Sun. |
| Ultimate-level fire under Blazing Sun | 11 | Blazing Sun and its heavenly-flame blessing raise the Qilin’s fire attribute to the ultimate level, at the cost of gradually draining its stamina. |
| Rank 40 — fourth-ring threshold | 13 14 | Reached after two years of cultivation; Ye Han prepares to seek a ten-thousand-year fourth ring. |
| Rank 41 — fourth soul ring | 16 17 | Absorbs the Sky-Splitting Wyvern’s black ten-thousand-year ring. Gains Spatial Prison and Nine Dragon Thunder Gang Fire. |
| Rank 48 | 18 | Reached during a month of immortal-herb refinement. Ye Han deliberately delays the next breakthrough so he can explain the Qilin’s coming evolution through cultivation at the well. |
| Rank 50 threshold — adult evolution | 19 | After absorbing the Yang Spring’s energy, the juvenile Qilin becomes an adult. Its enhanced body and flames allow it to withstand exchanges with Dugu Bo before Ye Han obtains a fifth ring. |
Background / History
The Fire Qilin originates from the Qilin Martial Soul reward Ye Han selects at the beginning of his journey. He chooses it alongside the Heavenly Flames gift pack, a separate Qilin-bloodline body martial soul, and innate full soul power 1.
At Heaven Dou Royal Academy, Ye Han summons it to demonstrate his strength during Zhi Lin’s entrance assessment. Its two heavenly flames begin merging into a destructive Fire Lotus, prompting the committee members to intervene before the unstable attack develops further. In Qin Ming’s subsequent assessment, the Qilin defeats Yu Tianheng despite the latter’s three-ring advantage, securing Ye Han’s place in the class 1 2.
The Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well becomes a major cultivation site for the Qilin. It comfortably bathes in the Yang Spring, whose heat is dangerous even to Dugu Bo, and later absorbs enough energy there to evolve into its adult form. After that evolution, Dugu Bo judges that most Soul Saints would probably be unable to defeat it 7 9 19 20.
Appearance
The Fire Qilin changes from a slender juvenile into a large, heavily built adult 19.
- Initial manifestation: A scorching phantom with a dragon’s head, deer antlers, a tiger’s back, and an elk’s body; it radiates a savage, murderous aura 1.
- Juvenile form: Small enough to appear beside Ye Han’s feet, with two qilin horns and visibly curious eyes 7.
- Adult form: Over three meters tall, with a lionlike build, crimson scales, a flaming mane along its back, a dark-crimson horn, and a tail resembling a fire dragon 19.
- Adult distinguishing features: Molten-gold eyes, flames swirling beneath its hooves, and true origin fire flowing beneath its scales 19.
Personality
The Fire Qilin behaves like an intelligent companion rather than a passive manifestation. It reacts to opponents without waiting for instructions, independently activates Qilin’s Breath, and becomes excited when Yu Tianheng increases his strength. Its combat behavior is aggressive and responsive, shifting from evasion to sustained pressure when an opening appears 2.
Outside battle, it displays curiosity and expressive mannerisms. It surveys the unfamiliar medicinal garden, cautiously tests the Yang Spring with a paw, imitates Ye Han’s resting posture, and smacks its lips after swallowing a soul ring. These gestures leave Dugu Bo wondering whether its intelligence is unique among detached beast martial souls 7 10.
Abilities & Skills
Physical Combat
The Fire Qilin combines agile movement with claw strikes, hoof attacks, punches, and bursts of flame 2 19.
- Qilin Step: A hoof-based strike used to clash directly with Yu Tianheng’s Thunder Dragon Claw 2.
- Qilin Claw: A metallic-sheened claw attack. In the arena, a restrained strike sends a Violent Gold Bear Soul Elder off the stage without seriously injuring him 12.
- Qilin Fist: An adult-form punch wreathed in white flames; meets Dugu Bo’s serpent-tail attack without being overwhelmed outright 19.
- Defensive scales: Withstand Dugu Bo’s transformed talons during their sparring match 19.
- Limit: Before its adult evolution, Dugu Bo easily blocks its surprise claw attack, demonstrating that teleportation alone does not overcome a large cultivation gap 17.
Qilin’s Breath
Its second soul skill provides successive increases to speed and strength 2.
- First enhancement: Raises both attributes by 50% 2.
- Second enhancement: Raises the enhancement to 100% 2.
- Demonstrated result: Overpowers Yu Tianheng even while Thunderclap Fury is active, sending him flying and scorching his transformed arm 2.
- Training use: Ye Han later limits himself to one activation per bout while repeatedly sparring with Yu Tianheng 3.
Blazing Sun
Its third soul skill is an attribute-based pseudo-domain obtained from the Sunfire Golden Disc Flower 10 11.
- Stimulates surrounding fire elements and strengthens fire-attribute soul skills 11.
- Suppresses water- and ice-attribute attacks within its range 11.
- Grants the Qilin a heavenly-flame blessing that increases its flame-attack power tenfold and raises its fire to the ultimate level 11.
- Gradually consumes the Qilin’s stamina 11.
- Does not distinguish allies from enemies: all fire attributes in the affected area benefit, while water and ice attributes are suppressed 11.
Spatial Prison
Its fourth soul skill derives from the Sky-Splitting Wyvern’s spatial talent. Like Blazing Sun, it is a pseudo-domain rather than a true domain 16 17.
- Creates a spatial field described as covering an area over a hundred meters across 17.
- Allows the Qilin to teleport continuously within the field without restriction 17.
- Also allows Ye Han to teleport within the field, but moving the host consumes considerably more Soul Power 17.
- Permits the Qilin to teleport independently without activating the field, though that method has a cooldown 17.
- Supports coordinated surprise attacks, with the Qilin drawing an opponent’s attention while Ye Han teleports behind them 17.
- Its unusual repeated teleportation attracts concern from Dugu Bo, who advises against displaying the full capability before outsiders 18.
Heavenly Flames
The Fire Qilin fuses with heavenly flames as Ye Han advances and acquires further soul rings 1 10 17.
| Heavenly Flame | Documented Acquisition | Notable Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Green Lotus Core Flame | Already present at first appearance 1 | One of the two flames used in the initial Fire Lotus fusion. |
| Fallen Heart Flame | Already present at first appearance 1 | The second flame used in the initial Fire Lotus fusion. |
| Three Thousand Burning Flame | Third soul ring 10 | Identified as the ninth-ranked heavenly flame; contributes to the ultimate-level fire achieved under Blazing Sun 11. |
| Nine Dragon Thunder Gang Fire | Fourth soul ring 17 | Can transform into nine fire dragons 17. |
- Heat resistance: The Yang Spring cannot harm it, even before its flames ordinarily reach the ultimate level 7.
- Dragon Pulse: A mouth-fired attack used to finish the mortally wounded Sky-Splitting Wyvern 16.
- Flamethrower: Releases a thick pillar of white fire during the adult Qilin’s battle with Dugu Bo 19.
- Defense penetration: Its adult-form white flames burn through Dugu Bo’s protective Soul Power 19.
- Poison destruction: Its flames turn cyan and evaporate Dugu Bo’s poisonous mist before the mist can reach it 19.
Buddha’s Fury Fire Lotus Support
Buddha’s Fury Fire Lotus is Ye Han’s self-created technique, with the Fire Qilin serving as a vessel for his heavenly flames rather than the technique being an ordinary soul-ring skill 1 11.
- The first displayed two-flame fusion is unstable enough to require intervention from the academy committee 1.
- After gaining the fourth flame, Ye Han can still reliably fuse only two colors; three remain difficult, and he does not dare attempt four 17.
- A later Three-Colored Buddha’s Fury Fire Lotus forces Dugu Bo to defend at full strength and leaves him badly battered during their sparring match 19.
Host Bond and Soul-Ring Absorption
The Qilin can act outside Ye Han’s body while retaining a direct energetic and sensory connection to him 16 20 23.
- Swallows soul rings itself, sending their energy into Ye Han through their bond 10 16.
- Delivers finishing blows to soul beasts weakened by Dugu Bo during ring hunts 10 16.
- Communicates sensory information from within Ye Han, alerting him to a lead on his fifth ring during the beast tide 23.
- Its separation lets Ye Han fight alongside it rather than relying on the martial soul alone 20.
Flight
After reaching its adult form, the Fire Qilin rises into the air through an unexplained buoyant force 19.
- Carries Ye Han on its back during flight 19.
- Transports him from the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well to a remote valley for their combat test 19.
- This is distinct from the blood-colored wings produced by Ye Han’s separate body martial soul 6 19.
Relationships
- Ye Han — Host and combat partner. Commands it mentally, cultivates alongside it, and affectionately scratches beneath its jaw after testing Blazing Sun 10 11 19.
- Dugu Bo — Soul-hunting helper and sparring opponent. Guards its ring absorption, questions its unusual intelligence, and comes to recognize its adult form as a genuine threat 10 16 19 20.
- Yu Tianheng — Recurring sparring opponent. His defeat by the two-ring Qilin establishes Ye Han’s superiority during Qin Ming’s assessment; further bouts make him Ye Han’s regular training partner 2 3.
- Dugu Yan and Ye Lingling — Witness its Spatial Prison demonstrations and adult evolution. During one demonstration, the Qilin withdraws the force of a claw strike before lightly brushing Dugu Yan 18 20.
Trivia
- The Fire Qilin is separate from Ye Han’s body martial soul. Qilin blood, Qilin Eyes, and transformed internal organs belong to that other martial soul, not to the external beast’s documented skill set 1 5 11.
- Despite being a manifested martial soul, it hunts for food and eats alongside Ye Han at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well 9.
- Ye Han does not summon it when defeating Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun; the Shrek group later learns that those victories were achieved without using his external beast martial soul 23.
