Ch. 21A man who took responsibility, the spirit's location
Key plot points and events
- Ji Feng considers entering the cellar to investigate the Evil Soul Masters’ spirit, but first leaves some of his blood outside so he can escape through a Blood Gate if trapped.
- Liu Chunmiao scouts the cellar and returns with the sisters’ Storage Soul Tools. Ji Feng refuses to escort the sisters to Shrek Academy, offering them a map instead.
- The sisters explain that they want to return to the academy. Ji Feng insists on staying to eliminate the spirit, arguing that leaving it behind would endanger others and that Shrek should take responsibility for the danger.
- Impressed by Ji Feng’s resolve, Liu Chunmiao leads her sister away. The sisters then discover that the familiar forest has become a vast, barren wasteland. When they turn back, the residence has vanished.
- They attempt to flee, but skeletal hands seize them. Liu Chunmiao uses her Ice Mist skill to break free, only for bone spikes to form cages around both sisters.
- Meanwhile, Ji Feng enters the cellar. He finds sparse furnishings and an elaborate blood-drawn magic array whose center is blank, leaving him to wonder what was meant to go there.
Character developments and interactions
- Ji Feng shows caution by preparing an escape route, but also displays a strong sense of responsibility by choosing to confront the spirit rather than leave it to harm others. He bluntly rejects the sisters’ request for an escort.
- Liu Chunmiao admires Ji Feng’s courage and contrasts his willingness to act with Xuan Zi’s failure to protect the sisters. She remains protective of Liu Jieqi, taking the lead when they try to escape.
- Liu Jieqi is more playful and openly clingy with Ji Feng, teasing her sister about possibly liking him. Once the sisters are trapped, however, she grows frightened and briefly doubts her sister’s dependability.
- The sisters’ gratitude toward Ji Feng is mixed with resentment toward Shrek’s leadership, especially Xuan Zi. Their trust in each other remains clear: Liu Jieqi follows her older sister’s lead despite her teasing.
