Background / History
Recruitment by Xu Yan
After awakening his own martial soul at six, Xu Yan sent people to find Ji Juechen. Familiar with his counterpart in the original story, Xu Yan admired his pure-hearted devotion to swordsmanship and considered him worth befriending. Imperial medicines improved Ji Juechen’s cultivation foundation, while the later gift of Gold of Life transformed both his martial soul and sword 8.
Escape from Mingdu
Ji Juechen fled the palace coup alongside Xu Yan, Xu He, and Yan Feng. He erased their footprints with Wind’s Extremity and recognized that the coordinated purge likely included a citywide blockade. Rather than remain near the imperial palace, he urged the group to move away and ultimately leave Mingdu or the Sun Moon Empire 1 2.
During their sewer escape, he took the rear, replaced the entrance cover, and listened through the pipe walls for pursuers. When patrol soldiers and assassins cornered them, he prepared to shield Xu Yan despite the enemy captain’s Soul King cultivation. He later intercepted the Demon Wolf Blade assassin’s attack, relying on Xu He’s strength-boosting cigar to withstand its force 2 3 4 5.
In the southern slums, Ji Juechen killed Wolf King within three breaths. He then helped finish Poison Spider after Xu He and Yan Feng created an opening. When Xu Tianyuan threatened the group, Ji Juechen refused Xu Yan’s attempt to secure his release and remained beside him until the Body Sect intervened 9 10 12.
Joining the Body Sect
Xu Yan made permission for his companions to accompany him a condition of accepting the Body Sect’s invitation. Mo Yuan agreed, while explaining that members without body martial souls would not receive resources reserved for core disciples. Ji Juechen subsequently escaped Mingdu with the elders and his companions, including after their raid on the imperial strategic warehouse 13 19.
At the sect, Ji Juechen immediately sought permission to train in Ten Thousand Gale Valley. Du Busi allowed it only in the outer region and under a steward’s protection. He moved into a four-room courtyard with Xu Yan, Xu He, and Yan Feng, and later trained alongside them without the gravity suits left behind during their flight 21 22 26.
Personality
Ji Juechen is a sword fanatic whose foremost concern is cultivation. Xu Yan describes him as pure-hearted and single-minded in pursuing the sword. He sees the dangerous winds of Ten Thousand Gale Valley as an opportunity to sharpen his swordsmanship and state of mind rather than simply a hazard 8 21.
His composure makes him a stabilizing presence during the escape. He assesses enemy intentions, warns against unsafe hiding places, and steadies his companions when Xu Yan is knocked through a wall. His loyalty is equally direct: faced with possible execution, he states that abandoning companions is not his habit 2 4 9 12.
Yan Feng’s chatter and nicknames draw out his dry irritation. He repeatedly corrects “Brother Chicken,” kicks Yan Feng into the sewer rather than trust him with rear-guard duty, and generally declines to engage with his teasing 2 22.
Abilities & Skills
Swordsmanship and Life Sword Intent
Gold of Life transformed his sword and martial soul, creating verdant Life Sword Intent with exceptional cutting power 8 9.
- Parries Wolf King’s claw strike and forces the beast martial soul user backward through superior strength 9.
- Exploits an opening to slit Wolf King’s throat, ending their encounter within three breaths 9.
- Delivers the finishing sword strike against Poison Spider after coordinated support from Xu He and Yan Feng 10.
- No independent healing application of his Life Sword Intent is demonstrated in these chapters.
Third Soul Skill: Wind’s Extremity
Wind’s Extremity releases dense streams of sword energy or green wind blades, with enough control for both concealment and direct combat 1 9.
- Track removal: Forms a low, pale-cyan whirlwind roughly ten feet across, erasing footprints, drag marks, and disturbed mud within two or three breaths 1.
- Offensive barrage: Produces wind blades denser, sharper, and wider-ranging than Wolf King’s Raging Wind Wolf Blade, destroying the opposing attack and cutting his body repeatedly 9.
- Precision: Keeps the concealment whirlwind close to the ground rather than launching its sword energy outward 1.
First and Second Soul Skills
His first two soul skills are unnamed in the supplied chapters. Activating them together increases his soul power and strength 9.
- Uses both before meeting Wolf King’s opening attack head-on 9.
- Their individual effects and numerical boosts are not specified.
Vigilance and Combat Limits
Ji Juechen combines careful observation with a realistic assessment of stronger enemies 3 4 5.
- Detects footsteps and metallic sounds above the sewer by pressing his ear against its wall 3.
- Recognizes that the attackers’ shell placement is intended to block escape rather than immediately kill the group 4.
- Judges that he can barely contend with a Battle Soul Ancestor but has no chance against a Soul King 4.
- Requires Xu He’s strength boost to block a high-ranking Soul Ancestor’s all-out blade attack 5.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Extraterrestrial meteoric iron sword — Fused completely with his martial soul through Gold of Life; carries emerald sword light and Life Sword Intent 8 9.
- Gold of Life — Supplied by Xu Yan after purification of the Spirit-Devouring Blade; responsible for his major martial soul transformation 8.
- Strength-boosting cigar — Provided by Xu He before the sewer battle, enabling him to intercept the assassin’s blade 5.
- Gravity suit — Previously used for training but left behind during the soul-ring hunt, coup, and subsequent escape 26.
Relationships
- Xu Yan — Close companion and benefactor who arranged his recruitment, supplied cultivation resources, and gave him Gold of Life. Ji Juechen protects him in battle and refuses to abandon him under threat of death 5 8 12.
- Xu He — Companion and support provider. His strength-boosting cigar enables Ji Juechen’s defensive interception; Ji Juechen also steadies him during the slum battle 5 9.
- Yan Feng — Fellow fighter and frequent source of teasing. Their banter contrasts with their shared loyalty to Xu Yan and cooperation in battle 2 10 12 22.
- Du Busi — Rescuer and sect master who escorts him out of Mingdu, houses the companions, and grants supervised access to Ten Thousand Gale Valley 14 19 21 22.
Notable Quotes

“If you could think calmly when something happened, you wouldn't forget any of that.” 5
Trivia
- Xu Yan’s recollections distinguish this Ji Juechen from his original-story counterpart, whose innate soul power was only Level 3 and whose bodily and martial soul shortcomings persisted despite his swordsmanship. That counterpart’s meteoric iron sword was broken by Wang Qiu’er, after which he relied on the Level 8 Sword of Judgment; those events are not presented as this version’s experiences 8.
- Yan Feng claims that Ji Juechen snores and asks him to choose a room farther away in their shared courtyard 22.
