Background / History

Search for a Successor

As the continent’s only Divine Craftsman, Zhen Hua worked at the Blacksmith Association headquarters in Heaven Dou City. He reserved one day each month to demonstrate forging techniques and provide guidance. He also searched across the continent for talented young blacksmiths, frustrated by candidates who feared hard work or expected immediate results 9.

Finding a successor was increasingly urgent: Heavenly Refinement consumed his life force, shortening his lifespan compared with other Titled Douluos 9.

Taking Tang Wulin as His Disciple

During a public Thousand Refinement demonstration, six-year-old Tang Wulin volunteered to reproduce Zhen Hua’s technique. Initially skeptical, Zhen Hua nevertheless supplied a stool, heavy silver, and the fifth-rank tungsten steel hammers he had used in his youth. He promised the hammers to Tang Wulin if the boy could achieve Hundred Refinement 9 10.

Tang Wulin exceeded the challenge by completing high-quality First-Grade Thousand Refinement on his first attempt at forging. Zhen Hua recognized that the child had copied much of his technique after watching it once, helped him blood-bind the finished metal, and eagerly sought to accept him as a disciple. Leng Yaozhu, who had brought Tang Wulin specifically to secure that apprenticeship, readily agreed 10 11.

Zhen Hua and Mu Ye subsequently trained Tang Wulin for eight months. Before sending him back, Zhen Hua gave him his forging notes and one standard cubic block of each of several rare metals. Both teachers wanted him to stay longer, but his enormous appetite had become difficult to sustain 12.

Confrontation with the Federation

When the Federation wrongfully detained Tang Wulin, Zhen Hua announced that he would stop forging Four-Word Battle Armor for Federation personnel until his disciple was released. Because no other Divine Craftsman could supply it, the boycott directly threatened the interests of the Federation’s strongest combatants 35.

He then joined Zhuo Shi and Leng Yaozhu at Federation headquarters, demanding an explanation for the arrest. His involvement placed him opposite Chen Xinjie, whose own Four-Word Battle Armor had been forged by Zhen Hua 38 39.

After the dispute was settled, Zhen Hua praised Tang Wulin’s conduct, gave him a piece of Deep Sea Heavy Silver Mother, and offered to personally forge his future Battle Armor 42.

Certifying a Nine-Year-Old Saint Craftsman

Zhen Hua and Mu Ye later reached Tang Wulin after an Evil Soul Master ambush. Although Zhen Hua noticed that his disciple was withholding part of the story, he respected his privacy rather than pressing him for answers 66 67.

At the Eastsea City Blacksmith Association, Zhen Hua supported Tang Wulin’s attempt at the Level Seven Saint Craftsman assessment. After examining the successfully Soul-Forged heavy silver, he used his authority to grant the rank directly and awarded Tang Wulin the badge. At nine years old, Tang Wulin became the continent’s youngest Level Seven Saint Craftsman 67 68 69.

Before their departure, Zhen Hua had Tang Wulin teach the association’s blacksmiths. Several veterans stalled at Levels Four through Six broke through their bottlenecks under his guidance 70.

Holy Spirit Cult Assassination Attempt

On the return journey, Zhen Hua piloted a borrowed black-grade mecha carrying Tang Wulin and Mu Ye. An attack destroyed the craft, forcing Zhen Hua to rely on his Four-Word Battle Armor while Tang Wulin survived through Invincible Golden Body. Dark Hummingbird prevented Mu Ye from assisting, leaving Zhen Hua to face Dark Phoenix, Leng Yulai 70 71.

Leng Yulai stated that the Holy Spirit Cult had targeted him because killing the sole Divine Craftsman would cripple the forging world. Zhen Hua stepped in front of Tang Wulin and attacked first, but his inferior combat technique and experience left him overpowered despite his superior armor grade 71 72.

During the battle, Leng Yulai claimed that certain Federation officials had enabled the operation. Her flames penetrated Zhen Hua’s armor, burned his left arm, and caused the armor to crack as his soul power dwindled. When she seized Tang Wulin as a hostage, Zhen Hua and Mu Ye offered to surrender. The recorded confrontation ends with Leng Yulai suffering a sudden, devastating chest wound; Zhen Hua’s subsequent escape is not established 72.

Appearance

  • Build and face: Stalwart and rough-featured 38.
  • Hair: Disheveled, with strands standing upright like steel needles 38.
  • Presence: Described as radiating a scorching, iron-blooded aura 38.

Personality

Zhen Hua values perseverance and attentive practice over praise. During public demonstrations, he is privately disappointed when spectators flatter him instead of studying the details of his technique. His search for an heir reflects a genuine desire to pass down his craft 9.

He is openly proud of Tang Wulin and fiercely protective of him. That protectiveness extends beyond teaching: he uses his professional influence against the Federation, shields Tang Wulin from Dark Phoenix, and is willing to surrender when his disciple’s life is threatened 11 35 71 72.

His relationship with Mu Chen reveals a more competitive side. A woman Zhen Hua once loved chose Mu Chen instead, and Mu Chen’s pride in his daughter’s talent continued to sting. Zhen Hua takes particular satisfaction in revealing Tang Wulin’s extraordinary achievements to his junior brother, though the two remain on good terms 68.

Abilities & Skills

Divine Craftsman Forging

Zhen Hua is the continent’s sole Level Nine Blacksmith and its only source of forged Four-Word Battle Armor 35 38.

  • Efficient refinement: Purifies heavy silver through Hundred Refinement in five strikes and completes Thousand Refinement in fewer than fifty 9.
  • Heavenly Refinement: Practices this advanced forging stage at the cost of his own life force 9.
  • Battle Armor production: Forged Chen Xinjie’s Four-Word Battle Armor 38.
  • Technical assessment: Can evaluate Soul-Forged metal and directly confer Level Seven Saint Craftsman status 69.

Teaching and Talent Recognition

Zhen Hua teaches through demonstrations, individual guidance, and written notes 9 12.

  • Recognizes Tang Wulin’s ability to reproduce a technique after a single viewing 10.
  • Guides the blood-binding of Tang Wulin’s first Thousand-Refined metal 10.
  • Encourages his advanced disciple to teach other blacksmiths 70.

Combat and Defense

Zhen Hua possesses Titled Douluo cultivation and fights with Four-Word Battle Armor, but forging—not combat—is his specialty 9 71 72.

  • Armored defense: Survives the destruction of the black-grade mecha and withstands repeated attacks from Dark Phoenix 71.
  • Close combat: Uses rapid charges and powerful punches capable of producing destructive shock waves 71.
  • Limitations: His soul power was built up through heavenly treasures. His combat experience and technique are inferior to Leng Yulai’s, and her flames can penetrate his armor 72.
