The white dormitory building appeared at the edge of her vision.
An old reclining chair stood by the entrance, with an elderly man lying on it.
His eyes were closed, and he seemed to be asleep. His graying hair stirred gently in the breeze, and he wore a drab gray robe. He looked no different from any ordinary old man dozing in the sun.
But Wang Dong'er knew he was the strongest being on the continent.
The guardian of Shrek Academy, Dragon God Douluo Mu En.
Wang Dong'er walked over and asked, "Grandpa, could you help me find this dorm room?"
Mu En took the key from Wang Dong'er.
"Room 108. First floor, third room on the left."
"Thank you, Grandpa."
Mu En smiled and nodded. "Another polite child. Looks like they're in the same room, too."
Wang Dong'er didn't hear his words. She hurried into the dormitory building and arrived outside Room 108.
The door was exactly as she remembered it, with a deep scratch in the frame.
Wang Dong'er inserted the key into the lock and turned it.
With a click, the lock opened.
The door swung inward.
Someone was sitting on the bed by the window.
His head was lowered as he tucked something into the small bedside cabinet.
Sunlight fell across his profile, outlining his lean features: his brow, the bridge of his nose, and his slightly pursed lips.
His hair was a little messy, clearly not well tended. He wore an ordinary coarse-cloth shirt, washed pale in places but very clean.
Hearing the door, he raised his head.
He saw those pinkish-blue eyes. They were so beautiful.
Huo Yuhao stood up. "You must be my new roommate. My name is..."
Wang Dong'er suddenly threw herself at him.
Huo Yuhao clearly hadn't expected his roommate to launch herself at him the moment she walked in. He instinctively stepped back, but the bed was right behind him.
Wang Dong'er wrapped her arms around his shoulders and crashed into his embrace, knocking him straight onto the bed.
"You!"
Wang Dong'er buried her face in his chest, feeling his warmth and breathing in his scent.
He wasn't an illusion, or a memory, or that distant figure she could only gaze at, never reach, while her soul drifted through the void.
He was Huo Yuhao, alive and warm, not yet hurt by Tang Wutong.
She held him tightly, as though pouring two lifetimes' worth of strength into her embrace.
Huo Yuhao finally recovered his senses. In a fluster, he pushed her off, scrambled upright, and pressed himself against the wall.
The tips of his ears were so red they looked ready to drip blood, and his face was filled with alarm and confusion.
"Who are you?"
Pushed away, Wang Dong'er sat at the other end of the bed. Seeing him like this, she couldn't help laughing.
This idiot.
Still just as easy to fluster as in our past life.
"My name is Wang Dong'er. But when we're outside, you have to call me Wang Dong."
Huo Yuhao blinked, his brain still rebooting.
Wang Dong?
He looked his new roommate up and down. Her skin was extraordinarily fair, and her features were as delicate as a girl's.
"Wang Dong'er, doesn't your name sound a bit like a girl's?"
Wang Dong'er arched an eyebrow. Of course she wasn't going to tell him the truth now.
She leaned closer, bracing one hand on the bed, until her breathtaking face was only three inches from Huo Yuhao's.
"That's why I told you to call me Wang Dong."
Huo Yuhao shrank back another half inch.
"Wang... Wang Dong."
Wang Dong'er nodded in satisfaction, then withdrew and sat on her own bed.
Her pinkish-blue eyes stared openly at Huo Yuhao.
Her gaze made Huo Yuhao squirm. He lowered his head and checked his clothes.
His buttons weren't fastened wrong, there was nothing on his face, and although his clothes were old, they had no holes.
Then what is she staring at?
"Did you clean this room? It's so tidy."
The praise left Huo Yuhao a little embarrassed. "You weren't here yet, so I helped clean up."
"Yuhao, let's have a fight," Wang Dong'er suddenly said.
"A fight?"
Huo Yuhao couldn't understand it. She'd just been praising him, so why did she suddenly want to fight?
And had he even told her his name?
Before Huo Yuhao could answer, a fair-skinned fist was already flying toward his face.
His pupils contracted. He instinctively dodged sideways, and the fist skimmed past his ear.
"Hey!"
Wang Dong'er gave him no chance to speak.
When her punch missed, she stepped forward half a pace with her left foot, twisted at the waist, and swept her right elbow across.
Huo Yuhao raised his arm to block, his forearm colliding with her elbow.
"This is a dorm room. If you want to fight, let's go outside."
"No. We're fighting right here."
"We'll break things!"
"If anything breaks, I'll pay for it."
Her unreasonable antics left Huo Yuhao unsure whether to laugh or cry.
Bracing both hands on the edge of the bed, he vaulted to the other side and put two steps between them. They faced each other across the bed, one brimming with excitement, the other with a head full of question marks.
"What exactly are you trying to do?" Huo Yuhao couldn't help asking.
"I just want to fight you. If you beat me, I'll tell you a secret."
"What secret?"
"I'll tell you after the fight."
With that, Wang Dong'er planted one foot on the bed and launched herself into the air, swooping toward him like a diving sparrowhawk.
Huo Yuhao's gaze sharpened. She really had backed him into a corner.
A sudden refusal to lose surged within him.
Fine. Bring it on.
He stopped retreating. Sliding his right foot back half a step, he sank into his stance, blocked Wang Dong'er's fist with his right arm, and curled the fingers of his left hand into a claw, reaching straight for her wrist.
He caught her wrist.
Huo Yuhao pulled with the momentum, trying to drag her toward him and pin her down.
But Wang Dong'er was much more agile than he'd expected. She followed his pull forward until she was almost against his chest, spreading the fingers of her other hand and striking straight at his chest.
The palm strike wasn't heavy, but its placement was tricky.
Forced to release her wrist, Huo Yuhao turned sideways to deflect the force. His shoulder struck the cabinet beside him with a dull thud.
A teacup toppled off the cabinet, about to shatter.
With quick eyes and quicker hands, Huo Yuhao bent down and caught the cup. Before he could sigh in relief, Wang Dong'er's leg was already upon him.
It wasn't a kick, but a hook. Her ankle caught his calf and gave a light tug.
Huo Yuhao lost his balance completely and fell to the floor, teacup and all.
Wang Dong'er gave him no chance to catch his breath. She closed in, pressed her knee against his thigh, and pinned his shoulders with both hands, holding him firmly against the floor.
She looked down at him, panting lightly. Stray strands of hair clung to her cheeks, and her eyes shone with triumph.
"Well? Do you admit..."
Before she could finish, the situation abruptly reversed.
He twisted his right wrist around and caught her arm in a reverse grip. At the same time, he drove through his waist and abdomen, twisting like a fish turning in the water, and forcibly threw her off him.
The instant Wang Dong'er's back hit the floor, Huo Yuhao was already on top of her.
He caught her wrists in both hands and pinned them above her head. His knees pressed down on her legs, leaving her completely trapped against the floor.
Both of them were breathing hard.
The fight had lasted only a few minutes, but they'd put everything into every move. Beads of sweat seeped from their temples and slid down their cheeks.
Huo Yuhao looked down at her, the corners of his mouth lifting despite himself.
"Do you yield?"
Wang Dong'er lay pinned beneath him, both wrists held in his grasp, unable to move.
