Background / History

Xu Sanshi is already acquainted with Bei Bei and Tang Ya when he encounters Huo Yuhao at Shrek Academy. Tang Ya explains that Xu and Bei Bei have known each other for years and are close, despite their outward rivalry. His attempt to seize fish reserved for Tang Ya leads to a duel with Bei Bei, which he loses after Huo Yuhao secretly interferes with a spiritual attack 7 8.

He subsequently becomes a regular customer at Huo Yuhao’s stall, buying fish both for Jiang Nannan and for himself. His pursuit of Nannan predates these encounters: during the Sea God’s Fate gathering, she recalls an incident six years earlier that left her with lasting pain and prevented her from accepting his affection 10 12 126.

Xu joins the seven-person alliance that survives Shrek’s selection free-for-all. The winners become the next generation’s Shrek Seven Devils and the academy’s tournament reserve team. After their championship victory, the academy formally confirms their title and assigns Xu, Bei Bei, Jiang Nannan, and He Caitou an Inner Court assessment at the end of the academic year 43 78.

Personality

Xu Sanshi is boastful, teasing, and eager to show off. He complains when Huo Yuhao’s opening-match illusion deprives him of a proper fight, jokes about Yuhao and Wang Dong’er sharing a bed, and later teases Wang Yan about Qing Ya’s attention 51 61.

His provocative behavior is also a deliberate combat tactic. He feigns exhaustion, taunts opponents into overcommitting, and exploits arena boundaries rather than wasting strength on direct exchanges. Despite his bravado, he withdraws against Chen An when continuing would risk his safety without benefiting the team 52 75.

He initially voices the traditional belief that Soul Masters should rely on their own strength rather than soul tools. Nevertheless, he works effectively with He Caitou, protecting the Soul Engineer while his weapons are assembled 54 58.

His feelings for Jiang Nannan expose a more vulnerable side. At Sea God’s Fate, he sincerely asks for another chance and interprets her silence as rejection, responding with a bleak smile before falling backward into the lake 126.

Xuanming Turtle and Shield Defense

Xu’s Xuanming Turtle manifests a turtle-shell shield and supports exceptionally strong defensive techniques 8 53.

• Protective dome: Raises his shield to form a dome of light around himself during his duel with Bei Bei 8.
• Split shields: Divides the shield into smaller pieces to intercept attacks from multiple directions or protect both himself and a teammate 53 58.
• Projectile deflection: Darkens and smooths the shield’s surface, then angles it to redirect Situ Yu’s powerful cannon blast rather than taking it head-on 53.
• Front-line protection: Holds off Yu Mengdi and Yang Yifan while He Caitou prepares sixty-four offensive soul tools 58.

Wang Dong’er observes during the first tournament final that his martial soul has not yet evolved into the Black Tortoise Shield. She attributes this to his recent battles being too easy to provide the necessary pressure 74.

Xuanming Displacement

His fourth soul skill exchanges his position with another person, allowing him to turn movement and enemy attacks into tactical advantages 52 58 74.

• Leaps off the platform and swaps with his opponent, eliminating that opponent by ring-out 52.
• Swaps with Yang Yifan, redirecting the latter’s charge toward his own teammate, Yu Mengdi 58.
