Tang Wulin had spent two full days trekking through the jungle on Senluo Island.
Strangely enough, ever since he had encountered that flock of Rocs that blotted out the sky on the beach, it was as though some mysterious power had smiled upon him. He had never again encountered a terrifying beast stampede of that magnitude.
The occasional larger wild beasts he encountered had all wisely given him a wide berth, intimidated by the Golden Dragon Spear.
"Has my luck gotten better?"
Holding the Golden Dragon Spear, Tang Wulin scratched his head in puzzlement. Branches had torn his clothes in several places, and dirt smeared his face. He looked rather bedraggled, but his pinkish-blue eyes remained bright.
He found a stream, cupped some cool water to wash his face, and filled the water flask he carried.
"Whatever. As long as it isn't that flock of giant birds, I can handle the rest."
After reassuring himself, Tang Wulin continued deeper into the island. The Goddess of Life's trial required him to survive for a month. He could not keep wandering along the coast; he had to head inland and find a safer hiding place.
Yet just as he crested a moss-covered hill, an unprecedented chill suddenly crept up his spine.
It was not fear, but an instinctive warning from deep within his bloodline.
The air around him seemed to freeze. The noisy chorus of insects vanished in an instant, and even the wind ceased to blow.
Tang Wulin stopped abruptly, bringing the Golden Dragon Spear across his chest in an instant as every muscle in his body went taut.
"Grrr..."
A low growl brimming with malice came from the mist ahead.
The mist churned, and an enormous dark silhouette slowly emerged.
It was a gigantic beast with an exceedingly bizarre appearance.
