Tang Wulin lifted his head. Gu Yue's figure was reflected in his ink-black eyes. His gaze was clear to its depths, yet held a trace of childlike confusion and unease, like a little beast afraid of being abandoned.
"Gu Yue..."
He blinked, his voice soft and sweet, tinged with uncertainty. "Sometimes I wonder if all of this is just an illusion. You're so wonderful. Will you really belong to me forever?"
A sharp pang pierced Gu Yue's heart.
She reached out and gently ruffled Tang Wulin's long blue-gold hair, then leaned down and held him tightly in her arms.
"Silly, how could it be an illusion?"
She murmured softly, her voice brimming with affection and reassurance.
Tang Wulin nestled his face against Gu Yue's chest. Listening to her steady, strong heartbeat, he felt his unease gradually fade. That familiar scent, carrying a faint hint of ambergris, made him feel utterly safe.
"Mm..."
He let out a contented sigh and nuzzled her like a kitten.
Feeling the dependence of the man in her arms, Gu Yue's heart softened. She knew her earlier remarks about "Lan Fozi" had still made this insecure fellow jealous.
"Wulin."
Gu Yue cupped his face, making him meet her eyes. Her tone was serious and sincere. "I know I made you jealous. I'm sorry. It was my fault."
Tang Wulin's lashes trembled, and a trace of hurt flickered in his black eyes.
"But you have to believe me. There's nothing between Lan Fozi and me. To me, she's no more than a stone by the roadside or a passing cloud in the sky. She isn't worth mentioning."
Gu Yue's voice was firm and resolute, as though she were making a vow.
"In my heart, in my eyes, even in my soul, there is only you, Tang Wulin."
