In the cold, dank underground cave, only the dull echoes of water dripping through cracks in the rock broke the silence.
With heavy, faintly unsettling footsteps, a boy clad in White Zetsu armor slowly emerged from the darkness.
Under the catalytic effects of White Zetsu tissue, Obito had grown considerably taller, and a cold mask now concealed his youthful face.
Seated on his stone throne, Madara Uchiha slowly opened his clouded lone eye and studied the boy who had undergone such a complete transformation.
"Well, Obito? How does it feel to wake from a dream... have you seen this false world for what it is?"
Obito remained silent, a suffocating stillness radiating from him.
During his time away from the cave, he had traveled to every corner of the Shinobi World.
He had witnessed shinobi slaughtering one another in the "power struggles between great nations"; he had seen civilians displaced by war, dying pitiful deaths.
The so-called bonds between comrades were as fragile as thin paper in the face of self-interest and death; every promise and hope was nothing but a hollow lie before reality.
This place was hell.
Obito slowly raised his head. In his right eye, exposed beyond the mask, the tomoe spun and settled into a Mangekyō pattern, emitting a chilling crimson glow.
"Yes... I see it now." Obito's voice was cold and utterly flat. "This world is cruel... pain, war, and loss are inevitable."
"I will carry out the 'Eye of the Moon' plan. With my own hands, I will end this cruel chain of cause and effect and create a world where everyone's wishes are fulfilled, where every fallen comrade can be 'resurrected,' where everyone finds eternal peace and happiness... including Rin."
As he looked at the "perfect successor" he had sculpted with his own hands, a barely perceptible smile appeared on Madara Uchiha's withered face.
Although the girl named Rin Nohara left a trace of "weakness" in Obito's heart, that suited Madara Uchiha's intentions perfectly.
He had sent White Zetsu to show Obito the darkness of the world, clouding the boy's understanding with half-truths.
The more he cared about the real Rin Nohara, the more Obito, unable to find salvation, would yearn for the "dream world."
Madara Uchiha slowly rose and staggered down from his stone throne.
He extended his dry, clawlike hand and entrusted Obito with all his forbidden techniques, the secrets of Yin-Yang Release, and the White Zetsu lurking throughout the world.
Then he lurched forward and, before Obito's eyes, forcibly tore apart the tubes connecting his back to the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path.
"Obito... until I am resurrected... abandon your former name and walk this world as 'Madara Uchiha.'"
The sound of snapping tubes echoed through the cave. Madara Uchiha's body gradually shriveled, and the last trace of life faded into the darkness.
The old Obito Uchiha died, and in the darkness, the new "Madara Uchiha" slowly put on his mask.
Today was Minato Namikaze and Kushina Uzumaki's wedding.
Asami Ri and Kakashi had changed into neat clothes and, as members of Team Minato, stood at the shrine entrance to greet the guests.
"Ri, look. Almost all the village's senior figures are here," Kakashi said quietly, his gaze sweeping over the crowd approaching in the distance.
Asami Ri nodded, his eyes passing over one face after another.
Leading them was the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi. He had traded his usual combat vest for a kimono, and with a pipe between his teeth, his graying beard quivered as he smiled.
Close behind him came the heads of the three Ino-Shika-Cho clans, followed by the next generation of Ino-Shika-Cho.
Shikaku Nara, Inoichi Yamanaka, and Choza Akimichi walked shoulder to shoulder, laughing and talking about amusing incidents from their days as Minato's classmates.
Then a stir ran through the crowd.
Hyuga Hiashi, head of the Hyuga Clan, approached at a measured pace. Each step was firm and steady, displaying the Hyuga Clan's ancient heritage.
Almost at the same moment, another figure came into view.
Uchiha Fugaku, head of the Uchiha Clan, wore a reserved expression. He inclined his head slightly toward Hyuga Hiashi, and the meeting of the two great clan heads seemed to freeze the air for a moment.
As the heads of the two prestigious clans passed through the entrance hall, they merely gave Asami Ri and Kakashi slight nods of acknowledgment.
Then, surrounded by their respective clansmen, they headed to the seats reserved for their families.
Just as the last guests were about to take their seats, a tall, somewhat travel-worn figure appeared at the entrance.
He still carried his signature large scroll on his back. Though dust from distant roads clung to the hem of his clothes, his hearty smile and the undisguised joy in his eyes made him look radiant.
He winked at the two students of his student stationed at the entrance, then strode into the hall and took a seat close to the ceremonial platform.
As the guests settled into their seats, bells rang melodiously through the hall, and the chatter abruptly ceased.
Minato Namikaze stood tall in a black formal haori and hakama bearing family crests.
The formal attire lent his usual warmth an air of refined modesty and restraint. He slowly stepped onto the ceremonial platform and waited quietly for Kushina's arrival.
Then, beneath everyone's breathless gaze, the shrine doors slowly opened again.
Accompanied by Rin Nohara in a simple, elegant outfit, Kushina slowly came into view.
She wore a shiro-muku symbolizing purity. Her red hair, usually as vibrant as fire, looked especially soft against the white kimono.
At that moment, the normally fiery "Red-Hot Habanero" had softened all her sharp edges into a serenity as gentle as water.
With her eyes lowered, she walked with light, dignified steps. The tenderness in her expression seemed to brighten the entire shrine.
With the Shinto priest bearing witness and everyone offering their blessings, the two completed the sacred ceremony.
After the ceremony, Minato took Kushina's hand. They stood side by side, facing their comrades, elders, and juniors below the platform.
"Thank you all for witnessing our union on this special day."
Minato's clear, pleasant voice echoed through the quiet shrine. He bowed deeply, and Kushina lowered her head in acknowledgment beside him.
"In the days ahead, whether as shinobi or as family, we will stand together with all of you to protect this home."
A wave of applause filled the hall.
At that moment, schemes, war, and slaughter seemed to belong to another dimension. Only this pure happiness lingered in Konoha's gentle breeze.
In a patch of shadow not far from the shrine, space suddenly warped without warning, rippling as though an invisible pebble had been dropped into still water.
Deep within the spiraling rift in space, a dazzling crimson Mangekyō Sharingan coldly watched the lively wedding in the distance.
Its gaze was icy, devoid of any human warmth, as though it were examining a farcical play rather than watching a celebration.
It passed over Minato and Kushina as they received everyone's blessings, passed over the powerful clan heads, and finally pierced through the laughing crowd to fix unwaveringly on one side of the ceremonial platform.
There, Rin Nohara watched the newlyweds with a bright smile, while Kakashi and Asami Ri stood quietly beside her.
A complicated emotion flickered in that solitary eye. Was it longing, loathing, envy, or jealousy?
No one knew.
To the person in the shadows, all the beauty beneath the sunlight was nothing more than an illusion.
"So this is... false peace."
As the final note of the wedding music faded and the guests' cheers reached their peak, the spatial vortex silently reversed once more.
The distorted ripples swiftly swallowed the crimson eye, vanishing into the deep shade of the trees along with the icy chill.
