After several days of investigation yielded no news of the Third Kazekage, Sunagakure erupted into an uproar, frantically searching everywhere for clues. Yet even after a lengthy investigation, during which the Sand ninja turned the entire village upside down under Chiyo's leadership, they found no trace of any outside ninja.
During this time, Chiyo also discovered that her grandson had gone missing. However, she never connected his disappearance to the Third Kazekage's. In her eyes, her grandson was simply a somewhat withdrawn ninja who liked tinkering with puppets.
A few days later, Chiyo and Ebizo gathered Sunagakure's key personnel for a meeting.
"Lord Kazekage has disappeared. Why haven't you ANBU found any information at all?"
An elderly ninja glared at the Anbu Captain and bellowed.
"The truth is, Lord Kazekage never came out after entering his office. Several of our ANBU squads were stationed around it, so we don't know how he disappeared either!"
Anbu Captain Jiro Koinu spoke in a grave voice.
"Hmph! Are you saying someone could have spirited Lord Kazekage away from his office into thin air?"
The elderly ninja continued pressing him. In his mind, the Third Kazekage's disappearance was surely the result of the ANBU failing to protect him.
Yet while the speaker meant nothing by it, the listener took it to heart. Ebizo's expression changed when he heard those words.
Chiyo had been watching her younger brother's expression all along. As Sunagakure's strategist, she hoped he could propose a plan now that the Third Kazekage had disappeared, keeping the village from descending further into chaos.
"Brother, did something occur to you?"
Noticing the slight change in Ebizo's expression, Chiyo immediately asked.
"Sister, do you remember the intelligence we received from Konoha when Danzo rebelled?"
Ebizo responded to her question with one of his own.
