In an Underground Space in the Land of Grass, Madara Uchiha looked helplessly at Obito Uchiha, half of whose body had been smashed to a pulp. His original plan had been to engineer Rin Nohara's death, awakening the darkness in Obito's heart so he could lure him in and eventually make him his representative in the world.
But plans could never keep up with change. First, something unexpected had happened: a boulder had fallen toward Kakashi's head. To save Kakashi, Obito had kicked him away, losing his own chance to escape. In the end, Obito had even given Kakashi his Sharingan, which had already begun to show a slight change.
This had thrown a wrench into his original plan, but it had also made Madara value Obito even more.
