Only after Jin's words hit him did he truly understand how precarious the Uchiha's situation was.
Sure, Jin had thrown the village leadership into chaos these past few days.
It hadn't done a damn thing.
The bigger picture hadn't budged.
The village was still strong where it mattered. Compared to it, the Uchiha were worlds behind.
And there was something else.
The war wasn't over yet.
Most of the village leadership's fighting strength was still deployed outside the village.
Even so, Jin had the moral high ground.
But what did that matter?
The night before, the blade of annihilation had already been pressed against their necks.
If his teacher hadn't dared to stake his life on taking everyone down with him, there was no telling what their situation would look like now.
What would happen when the war ended and all of Konoha High Command's forces returned to the village?
At that thought, cold sweat covered Itachi's back.
And this was after Jin had stepped forward, finally giving the Uchiha a glimmer of hope.
As the Clan Head's son, Itachi understood certain things better than anyone.
Before Jin came along, Root alone had been enough to run circles around the Uchiha.
Now he understood everything.
No wonder.
His teacher and Uchiha Setsuna were mortal enemies, yet his teacher had remained composed all this time without taking decisive action.
At most, he had asked Itachi's father, Fugaku, to keep Uchiha Setsuna firmly under control and watch him closely.

For all their boasts of being one of Konoha's great clans, compared to the village leadership...
Their strength was pitiful.
The Uchiha were already this weak. If they started fighting among themselves, the village leadership would be laughing in their sleep.

His teacher could kill Uchiha Setsuna,
