Chapter Summaries

Jiraiya and Orochimaru began summoning more Edo Tensei fighters while the Konoha battle spread to Kage-level combat between Mei Terumi and Karatachi Yagura. Elsewhere, Kakashi held off a Kirigakure force outside Konoha, killing its leaders and preventing it from advancing.

• Jiraiya prepared to summon the two Sages, but Orochimaru raised five coffins with Impure World Reincarnation, alarming them both.
• Kakashi warned arriving Konoha Ninja not to approach Karatachi Yagura, whose Water Mirror technique created controllable copies of attackers.
• Karatachi Yagura recognized that Kakashi was Mei Terumi in disguise, and Mei accused him of betraying Kirigakure before the two prepared to fight.
• Konoha Ninja raised a barrier around Mei and Karatachi Yagura's battle while others defended against the giant summoned snakes.

Naruto woke from a mysterious encounter with a crimson figure and returned from Mount Myōboku glowing with a powerful new chakra state. As he rushed back to Konoha, Minato and the others faced three tailed beasts, and the defenders braced for a desperate fight.

• A crimson figure told Naruto he had been given a choice to deal with the Nine-Tails, then vanished before he could explain further.
• Kurama roused Naruto from his daze, and Naruto woke at Mount Myōboku with brilliant crimson-gold energy surrounding him.

Naruto defeated Shisui Uchiha with his newly named Sunlit Heaven Ascension, then learned that the technique’s Metamorphosis Mode risked damaging his body. As Naruto recovered, Kurama took control and emerged in his original Nine-Tails form to confront the other tailed beasts.
