After reporting the message from Uchiha Itachi, he immediately briefed the Hokage on the relevant intelligence.
Faced with the momentous intelligence Uchiha Itachi had provided, the Third Hokage was stunned as well. He summoned Shikaku and a group of Konoha's veteran jonin to discuss it.
The Fourth Mizukage had once joined the Akatsuki.
That intelligence left everyone in Konoha who knew about it utterly bewildered, so much so that the news of Obito Uchiha being among the Akatsuki's members became a secondary concern—
After all, they had already experienced the bizarre sequence of Shisui Uchiha dying, coming back to life, joining the Akatsuki, and then dying again. Obito Uchiha hardly attracted much attention in comparison.
At least for the Third and Shikaku, they had become desensitized.
Besides, Shisui's body still had not been found. After being honored as a hero of Konoha, he had instead been made to disappear within Konoha by Danzo.
They could not accept that state of affairs either. The Third was still having the Anbu investigate the whereabouts of Shisui's body.
Thus, the name Obito Uchiha, which Konoha's leadership was not particularly familiar with, received little attention.
Kakashi was the only one troubled by the matter. After the meeting, he volunteered to investigate, spent considerable time thoroughly searching Kannabi Bridge, and then followed what few traces he could find in an attempt to gather information about Obito.
Unfortunately, even after spending a month or so on it, he found nothing, and all that traveling had begun to wear him down.
After returning to the village once more and informing Lord Hokage that his investigation had yielded no results, all Kakashi wanted was a good night's rest before heading to the Land of Wind to reunite with his subordinates.
But early the next morning...
Barely had dawn
