On a dull, idle afternoon, Naruto sat in his Seventh cloak, still reviewing what looked like a never-ending pile of documents.
Inside Naruto, the Nine-Tails felt a headache coming on just looking at all those documents. He let out a bored yawn, then suddenly thought of something and asked, "Naruto, watching you and Hinata last night got me thinking about something."
"Last night? What was it?"
Naruto had yet to realize the significance of that question. He kept his head down over his paperwork and asked without much thought.
"Nothing important. After that Hashirama fellow sealed me away back then, I spent a while being rather curious about how living things reproduced."
Naruto's pen suddenly froze.
The Nine-Tails had yet to notice and continued asking, "Humans, animals, even plants count, I suppose. Why can living things produce offspring through various activities?"
"But chakra lifeforms like us tailed beasts—or the Ten-Tails, for that matter—are alive too, aren't we? Why don't we have any corresponding means of producing offspring?"
The Nine-Tails even brought up the Ōtsutsuki. Although they knew little about how the Ōtsutsuki were born, their later encounters with Momoshiki had taught them something about Kāma and the Ōtsutsuki Clan's unique means of perpetuating their existence.
The thought made the Nine-Tails a little wistful. If the old Sage of Six Paths had known that the Ōtsutsuki Clan could preserve their lives through Kāma, could those who carried Ōtsutsuki blood have survived that way too?
