"My wife... she died on a mission two years ago," Dave said, putting on a world-weary act.
"I'm sorry, sir," the elderly woman hurriedly apologized.
"It's all right, it's all right. She's been gone for two years, and I feel like I have nothing to live for anymore. I just want to adopt a child, watch her grow up, and have someone to look after me in my old age. That would be enough for me." Dave shook his head.
"Of course, of course. Please come with me. I'll take you to see the children," the elderly woman said, quickly nodding.
Then the elderly woman led Dave down the corridor, looking through the windows at the children sleeping inside each room.
"Could I adopt that little girl?" Dave asked as he passed the last room and spotted Pakura sleeping inside.
"When... I look at her... I don't know why... but she always reminds me of my late wife..." Dave choked out his bullshit story.
"All right, I'll wake her up and ask her." Moved, the elderly woman wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes and entered the room.
She gently patted the sleeping little girl and woke her.
"Grandma, did you need Pakura for something...?" The little girl opened her sleepy eyes and asked in confusion.
"Pakura, someone wants to adopt you. Would you like that?" the elderly woman asked with a warm smile.
"What?! Someone wants to adopt Pakura?!" The little girl suddenly stood up and asked excitedly.
"Yes, yes. Look outside the window. That uncle is the one who wants to adopt you." Seeing Pakura so happy, the elderly woman nodded with heartfelt joy and pointed at Dave outside.
Pakura hurriedly looked toward the window, and Dave smiled and waved at her.
Pakura's eyes lit up.
