While Danzo was still lost in his pipe dream of using Shisui's eyes to control Madara Uchiha and slaughter the Uchiha Clan, the main force led by the Third Hokage had already arrived above Root's base.
Standing above Root Base, the Third Hokage swiftly completed his hand seals, then opened a breach in an invisible Sensory Barrier. Once the breach was open, everyone he had brought with him easily entered Root Base.
"Kill anyone who resists!"
Root could hardly be blamed for its lax defenses. After all, they were inside Konoha, and a defensive Barrier already protected their base.
Their only misfortune was that the Third Hokage, who was now leading the force breaking into Root, was the very man who had helped Danzo establish it in the first place. Even the Sensory Barrier outside Root had actually been created by the Third Hokage himself, the Professor of Ninjutsu.
As one of Konoha's senior leaders, Danzo could not simply be killed, even if he had committed a crime. Root's members, however, were nothing more than tools that could never see the light of day. Now that its most powerful tools had been destroyed, there was no point in keeping the remaining ones if they refused to obey their new master.
