Lönchen was a true Tibetan Nobility. His father, Gar Tongtsen, had served as Songtsen Gampo's chief minister—a title equivalent to prime minister. While Gar Tongtsen was alive, his power had already been immense.
After his death, his family became a jewel of the Plateau.
Lönchen was Tibet's God of War, defeating the Tang armies repeatedly. His elder brother, the chief minister, controlled the government and wielded overwhelming power at court. While the Tsenpo was young, he had thought little of it.
Once he grew up, how could he possibly feel any goodwill toward this family?
There could only be one jewel on the Plateau.
And that was the Tsenpo.
Once the Tsenpo came of age, a power struggle began among Tibet's ruling elite. Zan Xiruo, the chief minister and Lönchen's elder brother, was the first to fall. Lönchen returned to the Tibetan Royal Capital and "inherited" the office of chief minister.
In the end, the grown Tsenpo gained control of the military, and a terrifying purge began. Everything was settled by the sword. After the turmoil, the Tsenpo emerged victorious, and Lönchen's descendants had no choice but to submit to the Great Tang.
During this period, a monastic order carried the treasures of Princess Bhrikuti, the Buddha Mother, to Nanzhao. Eventually, they reached Pagan.
The reason was unknown.
