Far from the center of the lightning, the flashes became much less frequent. One streaked across roughly every five minutes and thirty seconds, with a margin of error no greater than three seconds.
But that was only a single piece of evidence.
Lin Feng needed to wait for a third flash to confirm it.
He had calculated the interval from his own heartbeat.

His eyes could see nothing, but his ears picked up sounds from every direction.

A flash came only after a long wait. In that precious instant, Lin Feng spotted a structure in the distance. It looked ancient and mysterious, its main body a wild, bristling mass, like something formed from countless hairs standing on end with static electricity. It seemed alive.
It stood not far from them.
The lightning had clearly appeared behind Lin Feng.
Yet when he looked at the thing, the light seemed to come from behind it as well.
All he could see was a pitch-black silhouette, without any detail.
And it definitely had not been there when they tumbled down.
It had appeared in the gully during that first lightning flash.
It had arrived along with them.
After this flash, Lin Feng would have to wait for the next one to make out its shape.
In other words, he needed to wait another five minutes.
Even if Lin Feng was an utter novice at feng shui, he had seen more than his share of extraordinary things. The man opposite him was about to speak again, but Lin Feng clamped a hand over his mouth.
